In June, Indio city councilman Sam Torres turned up the heat when he proposed a five-ten percent ticket tax on any live events hosting more than 2,500 people — in other words, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Music Festival.
Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett responded to the proposal last week, stating, “If the tax initiative of putting $4 million to $6 million onto Coachella gets on the ballot, we’re going to take off 2014; 2015 we’ll be at a new facility outside of Indio.” Now, as The Daily Swarm reports (via NBC Los Angeles), Torres has reneged his proposal, insisting, “I don’t take a threat by Paul Tollett lightly.”
The announcement came this afternoon, when Torres digressed in a press release: “I cannot in good conscience allow this to happen no matter how dire the city’s circumstance. My sincere hope is that we can now move past this episode and I personally look forward to working to enhance relationships.”
