Showgirls was stupid, labored and pretentious, saved only by Gina Gershon. Esterhaus is an unbearable hack.

Striptease was much more clever.

Yeh, you've mentioned this before. I just don't buy it. Both flicks are ill-conceived messes that tried to play the satire card when their producers realized they were too assinine to work as drama. And besides, "more clever than Showgirls" is like saying "more sane than Gary Busey" - it might be true, but it's not really much of an accomplishment.

There is some truth to this, yeah, but Showgirls never knew it was funny. Striptease is nudge-wink crapola through the whole film.

Don't forget his genuis reprobate Senator in Striptease, one of the most underated comedies of the 90's.

Good call. The scene where he's covered in Vaseline is too much. They marketed that movie all wrong. I mean, it's a Carl Hiassen book, which are all about corrupt power destroying his beautiful homestate of Florida, and they pushed the movie as "COME SEE DEMI MOORE'S TITS"

I'd love to see more Hiassen novels made into movies.

their marketing worked on me.
