Yeah, it's pretty good. I'm a Mike Leigh fan.

Never seen it.
What's it about?

I've always wanted to see Vanishing Point but never seen it anywhere to buy or rent, until today. I got if for $8.00.

I also got Dogma, Kill Bill, Star Wars Clone Wars animated dvd (so far, it's really good).

Vera Drake is about this virtually elderly woman who is a "domestic aid" in 1950's England. She goes to homes around London and takes care of old/sick folks for wealthier families. However, she also does abortions. It's quite interesting. I think I have never had as much sympathy for a character in a movie. A close second is the father in "In America", which is another great film.

Wow.

I didn't think Michael Leigh was even making movies anymore...wasn't Topsy Turvy the last one he did ages ago???

Naw, he's been doing stuff, but a lot of them don't get released in the US on any scale (is your lab in the US?).

I liked it, but my faves of his are still Secrets and Lies or All Or Nothing.

All or Nothing was his last one, then Topsy Turvy before that. My favorite, though, is definitely Naked.

Let's not forget the Mike Leigh referrence in the Camera Obscura song "A Sister's Social Agony" -- I think it's called.

Just to make the thread somewhat music related.

Just saw this flick last night, and would agree it was great. An interesting commentary on unwanted pregnancies, and how different social classes dealt with said problem. We've come a long way, thank God.

I think the hardest part for me to watch was when she was told her "friend" Lillian was accepting big money for what she was doing out of the goodness of her heart.

You sick fuck, that's also my favert - if not only for the sharp biting dialog. Followed closely by S&L. VD's been nothing but a sleeping pill to me. I've tried watching it 3-4 times, but keep falling asleep. I'll wait to see it in it's entirety on ABC Family.
