Just heard a new Replacements song and fucking loved it. Just reminded me how inspired and inspiring slopp as rock n roll can be when it's in the right hands. Can't wait for this one now.

Loving this one.

In fact, loving this band right now. I didn't realize this was their 6th studio album in the past 10 years. I had their last 2 but have now filled in their entire back catalogue and, damn, if it's not all great.

Pickwick - Can't Talk Medicine

turns out to be a nice blind grab, vein of Fitz and the Tantrums, Fly Golden Eagle, Honky Rock-n-Soul
Image

Quote:
After garnering extensive blog praise from three two-track digital EPs, the young Pacific Northwest band strongly and impressively assert their might on this effort.
. . . With a persistent need to scratch a blues-dance-band itch, Pickwick plays full-bodied rock n’ soul with animated electric guitars, bottomless organ swells and fertile voices.

Boy,I had to chop up that article to get to the meat, misleading on so many parts

Muchacho starts out solid. But the second half is a complete snoozer.

The forthcoming 12" EP is only an obligation comprised of half-hearted myopic idiocy.

Along with The National, this is easily my most anticipated. Love this track.

I saw the three that are up at Pitchfork. Good stuff. Does nothing to dampen the anticipation.

another aBortion

The thermals should have quit 4 albums ago.
They're a unidimensional band that did as well as possible over the course of their first two albums (and those are a 1 spin every few years content).
Instead of leaving well enough alone, they keep puking out records that get progressively worse because of forced half-assed songs and pro-tools production
I still purchase every new Thermals vinyl because idiots keep buying them off me 2.5x my 1st press purchase.

Isn't that what I just said? Their formula hasn't changed at all. Although I don't understand the protools comment. The early stuff sounds like it was recorded in a trash can and so does this new one. Or is the new stuff made with some kind of fancy shiny digital trash can?

Just gave the upcoming Barn Owl a listen...not sure what to make of it right away. It's more sparkly maybe for lack of a better word. On first listen it seems like maybe adding some different elements this time took away from that dust and gloom apocalyptic heavy western thing that I loved on the first three albums. Caminiti still sounds spectacular, but gets drowned out by the late-era Emeralds synth flourishes at times and it is a bit frustrating. Oh well. I'm sure I will revisit, but on first listen this might be my first major disappointment of the year.

I liked their first couple albums. I don't like the ones as of late. I think the albums have changed for the worse over time.
That's what I said.

Yeah the songs aren't as strong I suppose. But I end up liking the later-era stuff more each time I hear them.
