Haha I just realized jewels said Tony Gwynn. Great minds, perhaps?

Now, who gets to be Jack Morris?

I think you are short selling Wilie Nelson, Beeg, even if you only use the tightest of qualifiers; To wit, he put out high quality material from at least the early 60's until the late 90's (you could argue he has done some strong work this century but I'm willing to concede that Teatro is his last "great" record.)

In the abstract that seems highly possible but then I look at his discography and I wonder. Almost every WN album I own and love though is from the 70's. "Always on My Mind" is the only non-70's album I even own and I wouldn't call that great. At times, I've wanted to buy more from him and looked at his discography and decided not to. What am I missing out on from the 60's, 80's and 90's that's great? Haggard is a better candidate for me as I think his 60's work is great and I think "Big City" from '81 is a really strong album. That's the most recent Haggard album I own though so I couldn't get to 4 great decades with him. It's possible that he has enough to qualify but if I believed that in my heart, I would have bought more of his post 70's work. Nelson could be the better candidate and its just an issue of my lack of exposure. Dunno.
