first of all, good stuff. it follows the "band that no one cared about at the time but influenced so many after" line, which sometimes gets old, especially to music nerds, but it's fleshed out with so much detail and compassion and that I can't help but enjoy it.

anyway, i've got all the Big Star from both the 70s and the reunion bootlegs w/ the Posies etc, but now I'm going to look more into:

Chris Bell's solo stuff

and

Tav Falco's Panther Burns, a band I've heard of and maybe heard, maybe on a Radcliffe mix or something. But looking at their discogs site they've got tons of releases.

any recommendations and discussion would be welcome.

do you have the bootleg from Chicago called "Pick Some Posies and Let's Play"?
If not, I can get you a copy of that one.
I was actually at that show. Amazing.

As to the documentary: it was solid.
A cool show for folks who are already fans. But I don't think it would create any new fans of people who aren't at least already interested/curious.

Ditto for me and yes I have that show. That's awesome that you were there!

I Am The Cosmos is a pretty awesome comp. Wish he would've been able to continue.

Start with Behind the Magnolia Curtain, vomit, delete, realize everything ever written about them is total horseshit, move on.

Yeah. I was in the balcony, right above the soundboard where the mic was set up that recorded the show.
That "WOOOOO" you hear at the beginning of "The Ballad of El Goodo" I'm pretty sure is me.
I remember letting out that whoop, and where I was standing... it would make sense that it is.

Loved the movie, saw it in the theatre. When they got to the Bell's accident, a bunch of us broke down. It was bittersweet to see him finally get his due and a cool collective moment to be a part of.

My other favorite moment in the movie was when they chose to play Thirteen over the passage about Bell leaving the band because he was being overshadowed by Chilton. Just wow.

I got to see this at the Alamo as Ken's +1. The director spoke before the movie and then he and two of the guys from cotton mather played a few big star tunes before the movie.

This happened in the middle of making my album.

Yeah, I really dug it as well. Didn't know Bell went full-blown Jesus People.

I'd love to have a Chilton doc, though.
