I'm not sure why Phil posted this but Tropicalia has little in common with Bossa Nova other than both being Brazilian. Also, AMG's description of Tropicalia is decent but their album listing is woefully inaccurate. It almost looks like they selected Brazilian albums at random for inclusion. There were probably less than 10 Tropicalia albums ever released. Their album listing includes much more than 10 albums and not that many of the actual Tropicalia releases.
I don't think AMG's Bossa Nova album listing is much more accurate unfortunately.
Toots and Drinky have given you a good starting point. Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim are the biggest names. I greatly prefer Joao Gilberto personally and think his first three albums including Chega de Saudade which that youtube Toots posted plays in full are his best. He has a live album "In Tokyo" which is really pretty good too and I like the ones Drinky recommended also. Astrud Gilberto has a few good albums but also some very meh stuff. I'm not a fan of Bebel Gilberto at all.
Bossa Nova can be pretty great but it also can sound very much like dated easy listening lounge jazz. There's a pretty fine line. Bossa Nova guitar is a very intricate style of playing and is supposed to be very hard to play. The more piano and horns are layered on though and the more you bury the guitar which is what is usually what makes it special.
If I can think of anything else worth looking for, I'll come back and post it.
