I hate their singles, so I've never bothered to check out anything else.

For those wondering about how many hits they had before becoming "huge" :

"Roxanne" reached #32
"De Do Do Do" & "Don't Stand So Close" reached #10

And this amazed me...the amount of time between "Roxanne" becoming a hit & "Every Breath You Take" being a smash? 4 years & 2 months. Nowadays it takes big groups that long to decide which friggin' studio to record in.

Way to ruin my otherwise excellent argument with facts. Thanks a lot.

shit, i need to get my hands on that Live album!

I'd get you a copy, but the rapper in L.S. is enjoying it too much. It's 5 bucks and up for brand new copies on Amazon.

Be warned, they're great performances but not great recordings. I wouldn't have it any other way though.

My favorite studio album is Zenyatta Mondatta.

I guess I'm all alone on that one, huh?

Well Disc 2 was recorded at the old Omni in Atlanta---probably the worst arena for a concert ever constructed. I applauded its implosion.

Still, a soft spot. *pours out swig of 40oz.*

Nice avatar, Hideous. Quisp was always a favorite of mine. On one hand I can count the number of people I've met who knows that cereal.

Obviously, Sting's "Fields of Gold" was good enough for Colin Meloy to rip off....

Ah, I can see that I guess. Easily the worst song on that album, and their second worst ever.

I actually like that song - and oddly enough, I think it's just because the hook was familiar... you know, it's one of those deals where you're like "finally! someone DECENT used that hook and it's ok to LIKE it."

and while we're on the subject, "We Both Go Down Together" really smells of R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion".....

In that interview someone posted, Meloy says he loves REM and when he sings tries to sound like Michael Stipe. Which he sucks at.

I know you live in NYC and probly don't get a lot of car time Haq, but "Message In A Bottle" is still one of the great car songs of all time.

And playing bass on Synchronicity Part 2 is among the most fun you can have on a Friday night (thanks Mikey!).

i would only consider "message in a bottle" a good car song if that car was programmed to carry me to a swift death.
