..by playing a gig that required me to wear a Hawaiian shirt and straw hat and covering "Cheeseburger in Paradise". My question is: how do I get my cred back? Or is it like brain calls (gone forever)?

It was worthless to begin with.

What you should be worried about are the actual brain cells you lost by playing that cover.

What you should be worried about is the dude from EODM in your avatar.

Yeah, well.... the private party busty and I got hired for this weekend saw us on top of a boathouse in dude's backyard, with this as a backdrop:

...playing nothing less GAR than John what-the-fuck-am-I-doing-this-for Denver's Country Road.

I am proud to say that we kept straight faces. It was not easy. You just go out afterwards, have 6 beers, and never talk about it again.

I bet you guys are glad you don't have to play gigs with me anymore. No way I would have let that one go by without at least a snarky comment or 2.

... it does make certain things easier (keeping a straight face). And other things harder. Like loading in/out.

They were VERY nice people, and there were rampant young'uns underfoot. But there was also the faint trace of Mongery Gone By in the air, and it was quite evident after a few between-sets conversations with some of those guys / gals that most of these people used to bring it before the Kid Fairy came to visit. I definately got the impression that, given half a reason, any one of those guys would slam 4 beers in ten minutes and start breakin' shit.

this reminds me. I recently looked at some old home video/pictures from my youth. I didn't notice then, but it was obvious now that my dad and his friends got smashed at all of birthday parties and get togethers.

The first time the wife smelled weed in highschool, she had a flashback to family camping trips, when the adults would go disappear for a while.

Don't worry, pinehurst - as far as I'm concerned, you never had any cred to begin with.

I'm going to see Jimmy Buffet at Wrigley in about two weeks. My goal is to be the drunkest I've ever been in my life.

I will say this: If you can't have fun at a Buffett concert, you can't have fun. If all you do is get wasted and laugh at the goofballs in the hawaaian shirts/shorts/socks with sandals/cellphones clipped to belts/out of the house for the first time in a year/left the baby at home with gramma/gonna puke on themselves by the first song/get slapped by the wife for trying to go for the shocker....etc... It's worth it.

That said, you can also just get drunk and listen to some fairly decent music. maybe he's bring Clint Black out and do Southern Cross.

Your wife's from 'Sconsin, no? Hopefully, her family is not acquainted with my father... Though, the chance is good that they know some of his friends. They were dealers (pot and cocaine).

My father only laundered the profits.

And, if he could, he would get a bump off his friends. He never paid for cocaine his damn self. He was (is) DAT SHYSTER.

Yeah, she's from WI, but the family is pretty tame, in that regard. Her dad and her uncle (by marriage) shared a love of pot for a while there, back when her dad was into macrame(sp?). Nothing heavier than that, I'm sure. More "sit around at home and get crunk" than going out / doing snorts etc.
