Actually I always thought it was inferior to the original. I'm pretty much alone in that as even Dylan thinks Jimi's is the better version.

Yeah, you're probably in the minority. I think Dylan even started playing a version more like Jimi's after it was released.

But, really, regardless of if it's better than the original...it's still an awesome cover tune.

Someone always says this, and that someone is always wrong. The Split Enz version is way better. The keyboards on it make it sound so stalkerish and it fits the lyrics perfectly.

Don't think so. Lead singer's voice is too low and almost inaudible to begin with. There's lots of fuzz coming from bass & moog so it makes it tough to decipher who this mystery artist is. Female background vocals, too. Chase?

That someone is usually me. I think the guitars and snarling vocals make the song. I'm not trying to infer that the original is crap, I appreciate Split Enz quite a bit. That said, PL's cover is tremendous.
