...in 20 words or less.

Antony & the Johnsons - I highly recommend this. It blew me away. Will be in my Top 10 of 2005.

Okkervil River - Very disappointing. It's utter crap. Who recommended this to me...? :x

That Okkervil River album is OK, but I was pretty disappointed in it, too.

Especially after I was so impressed by seeing Shearwater live. I was sure Will Sheff's "real" band would be even better. But no.

I'm being serious. Antony & the Johnsons is definitely one of the better albums I've heard all year. It's quite addictive actually.

Okkervil River sounds like Bright Eyes to me.

Bright Eyes plus The Shins and you've pretty much got Black Sheep Boy.

OH! MakesNoSenseAtAll sent I Am A Bird Now to me last night, and it was fucking wonderful, especially for the mood I was in. My friends dad died last night, he was only 50 or so and it hit everyone pretty hard.. so the opening track somehow just suited my feelings and how the night went in general perfectly.

I don't know. He hates it, but I really liked it from the first listen, atleast. I couldn't really like the guys voice at first but then it grew on me after I listened to a few more tracks.

I am definitely going to buy this album at some point.

When I made a thread on Antony and the Johnsons like a month ago saying they were shit, I had ten billion people come out and attack me for not realizing their brilliance. It seems things have changed...

I haven't been interested in hearing the Okkervil River album, because I got some kind of free sampler a couple years ago with one of their songs on it and it was terrible. I'll have to hear it eventually, though.

I wouldn't go that far. I mean, it's just different.

I dunno, I just know that Antony & the Johnsons are this year's Blonde Redhead for me. That's how much it has affected me.

Will it be my No. 1 like Blonde Redhead were last year, I dunno yet.

"Fistful of Love" would be a great song without the singing.

i have no idea what you mean by this but i'm glad that it brings you happiness. it's just important to me that you know that it's complete garbage and your appreciation of it lowers your worth as a person.

seems like this board hypes both those bands ALL THE TIME (also add in andrew turd). personally i don't like either discs. esp antony and the johnsons which i think is garbage.

Cripes, I really like the new album. In fact, I just got a t-shirt and poster in the mail today from them :)

I just listened for two tracks from the Okkervil River album...how the hell did these guys get hyped by ANYONE? They're so boring and utterly nondescript that I can't believe anyone took the time to write 3 words about them.

well with Okkervil River the common answer - "the guy is such a great songwriter"...blah blah

same thing with that dude from florida...can't remember the band name off hand. use to be a film professor or something. his music bores me - but he is such a "great songwriter". someone name that artist - i am drawing a blank.
