as posted in the barren street teaming forum, i'm dj'ing at smartbar in chicago the next two wednesdays. this past week was the brian jonestown massacre after-party, which went pretty well after i worked out some kinks.

Alpine Stars - "Nusex City"
Tobiah - "I Love Your Music"
Heiko Voss - "Call Me Now"
Broadcast - "Pendulum"
Paris Angels - "Perfume (All on You)"
Brian Eno - "King Lead's Hat"
Of Montreal - "Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games"
Shout Out Louds - "The Comeback" (Big Slippa Remix by Ratatat)
Dirty Vegas - "Ghosts"
Modjo - "Lady"
Mint Royale - "From Rusholme with Love"
Super Furry Animals - "Northern Lites"
ESG - "Dance"
James Chance - "Contort Yourself"
The (International) Noise Conspiracy - "Smash It Up"
Primal Scream - "Screamadelica"

[break]

Gran Ronde - "Fist Fight"
Nine Black Alps - "Cosmopolitan"
Suede - "New Generation"
Ned's Atomic Dustbin - "Grey Cell Green"
The Jesus & Mary Chain - "Sidewalking"
Soup Dragons - "Head Gone Astray"
Happy Mondays - "Step On"
Echo & the Bunnymen - "Bring On the Dancing Horses"
The Church - "Reptile"
Stone Roses - "Sally Cinnamon"
Ultra Vivid Scene - "Staring at the Sun"
Sleeper - "Nice Guy Eddie"
Pylon - "Stop It"
Adam & the Ants - "Press Darlings"
Bridge Gang - "London Sky Tonight"
Melody Club - "Take Me Away"

[break]

Kasabian - "Club Foot"
Annie - "Heartbeat"
Depeche Mode - "Policy of Truth"
Devo - "Uncontrollable Urge"
Maximo Park - "The Coast is Always Changing"
XTC - "Helicopter"
Split Enz - "I Got You"
The Make-Up - "White Belts"
Rocket From the Crypt - "Bring Us Bullets"
The Undertones - "Teenage Kicks"
Siouxsie & the Banshees - "Love in a Void"
The Buzzcocks - "Everybody's Happy Nowadays"
Au Pairs - "Armagh"
Reds - "Victims"
X - "We're Having Much More Fun"
Sufjan Stevens - "John Wayne Gacy, Jr"

it was a weird night. someone paid me $20 to play split enz and rocket from the crypt. a few people walked into the booth and started flipping through my records. some girl put on my headphones when i put them down for about three seconds. and then she wouldn't give them back, claiming "you're not even using it!" i unplugged them from the mixer and she went on her way. it's amazing how rude some people can be. oh, and another girl claimed that i wasn't worthy of dj'ing because i didn't have OMD that night. yeah, whatever.

Yes, Chicago people can indeed be rude. It's the EPA's and Charlie's that make that place tolerable.

How long were you playing for, like 3+ hours?

That's fucked up beyond words. When I helped a friend DJ, most of my help consisted of crossing my arms and blocking their way into the DJ booth.

Z,

Awesome mix list. Makes me wish that I was there, not only to slap the bitch who put on your headphones without even asking first.

I miss smartbar. It's been too long.

i had a friend making sure that my gear didn't leave the booth while i was busy. also, one guy actually took a record off the turntable. i was like, "what the fuck are you doing?!?" he said he thought i'd already played it. i was like, "that doesn't matter! that's my record! what were you going to do with it?" i had about ten seconds to cue it up again. coincidentally, he and the girl with the headphones were there together. i should've seen that coming.

i do some wednesdays, which is the indie/britpop/electronica/etc night. that's really the only time i go to smartbar unless it's a big name like derrick carter or whomever. it's never a great crowd because it's a wednesday, but a show upstairs helps a lot.

as for a clue-in, i'll also be doing the m.i.a. after-party in two weeks. arcade fire is the same night at the riviera, so maybe a few people from there will come by afterward too.

and thanks to everyone for commenting on my playlists.
