I have read what info allmusic has for them, but I am interested in hearing some obner opinions about them. Where to start as far as albums go and things of that nature.

i've have The Black Light, Feast of Wire, and the [ic]onvict Pool[/i] and listen to them pretty often, especially in the summer. good albums, though I prefer the latter to the former.

it should also be noted that I loathe giant sand.

I pull my comp out every now and then, the Black Light and Feast of Wire are all I have really heard. it's great stuff if you like Tacoes, Southwestern BBQ, Cactus, Peyote, Tumbleweed, and Spaghetti. When I am in the mood for it, it sits just right.

Black Light is probably the best place to start.

Peep "Aerocalexico" for their more ambient, schizo, spaghetti western side.

Ahem, that's Obnerpinions.

Feast of Wire. It's their most accomplished album. Then check out everything else. FoW kept me occupied for a good long time, but I have 'em all now . . . Also just picked up the Calexico/Iron & Wine EP, In the Reigns. Friggin' awesome. Don't know why I didn't rush out and buy this the day it came out.

Just curious, but how could you loathe GS but like Calexico? They're very similar.

Black Light or Feast of Wire

I lean a little towards Black Light.

One has an annoying singer, the other doesn't.

I would add Hot Rail to the list. Immediately

You can't go wrong with The Black Light, Feast of Wire either.

I'm a bit partial because this record & tour of 2000 was my first exposure to the band. It was apparently a first for Calexico using a full-on mariachi band as backing on several of the songs for the Hot Rail tour. I also remember it being a night of Hornitos, Budweiser and Neko Case as the opener. Yum

Beautiful.

I have Feast of Wire, and always MEANT to get more, but have never pursued it. I am very curious about the Iron and Wine thing. Is it a Split EP or a collaboration?
