Everything I listen to today on iTunes whether it be a stream or music from my library is all crackly (kinda like a slightly fucked up CD).

Anybody ever experience this? I checked the speaker connections (ive got a 5.1 speaker setup)......

Did you update to the latest version of Itunes? They just released a new version that fixes some problems some users encountered in Itunes 5. Not sure if this is one, but it's worth a shot.

That's a weird problem, sounding more like internal speaker/volume issues that iTunes itself.

Since you brought it up, I haven't been able to update to the latest version of itunes. Any link to DOWNLOAD NOW just takes me to a page where a download does not begin and there are no other links to click. :wtf:

I never updated to 5.0 because I'd heard about the problems; I'm aware that 5.1 is out there with the fixes and I'll probably grab it this week sometime;

Seems to be better now. I was ripping CD's when I was having the sound issues so maybe that had something to do with it? Dunno, hasnt been in the past but I'll just chalk it up to that unless it persists......

You probably have a virus, spyware, or some sort of software incompability (ran out of IRCs or whatever they're called)...reinstall your operating system and all your software...

Don't blame the messenger -- I got the same problem with WMP, and that's going to be my solution, as soon as I get some free time (I've even already bought the hard drive).

I dunno. It seems kind of weird that a program would do it, but hell, who knows? Maybe it's the government's fault.

My bro works for iTunes. He's telling me to tell you to e-mail them using the form at the bottom of the following page:

http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/songs

also, e-mail him directly at mbovett_AT_gmail_DOT_com.

Is it static or stuttering? I just uninstalled a soundcard that had been giving me problems and am now relying on the motherboard's integrated audio, which is usually fine. However, I found that when I rip with one drive (my DVD reader, which works for stubborn disc that my brand new CDR-writer won't read for whatever damned stupid reason) it was stuttering through the audio, which lead me to believe that the problem was not Itunes, WMP, or the audio, but the fact that my processor and RAM are being consumed by Itunes ripping.

Check it out for yourself: When ripping, right-click your taskbar and go to Task Manager. Select the Performance tab. The top graph and bar show you your CPU usage. If it's like mine is right now, it's pegged pretty much at 100% the whole time. If you click the Processes tab, find Itunes in the list and note the changing numbers in the CPU column - that's the percentage of your CPU that is being consumed by that program. As I rip a disc right now, it wavers between 90 and 99%. Trying to do anything else even slightly intensive while using that much CPU is going to result in some instability. WMP is a pretty hungry program. It's taking up 18mb or so when I have it up, but not actually playing anything in it. Just imagine what would happen while you were ripping and trying to listen to something else. Windows is supposed to manage this stuff so it can work well together, but sometimes it just doesn't. For whatever reason, my one drive causes a problem. The other doesn't. I need them both, unfortunately, for times like yesterday when I got the Killing Joke (1980) remaster and the one drive wouldn't recognize it - but the other did. Weird.

my iTunes did this a while back, and ive uninstalled and reinstalled a billion times, and it still is shitty. I just use WMP instead, because the same mp3 files that once played perfectly in iTunes play perfectly in it. STrangely, when i had an iPod, even though my iTunes was fahked, once the music was transferred to the 'Pod it worked fine.

This is still not necessarily the problem of iTunes -- it could be a source contention problem.

Assuming you've heard the album before the remaster, I'd be interested in finding out if you can honestly hear a big improvement in the sound.

Sorry for the hijack.

I have heard the original, and I think it's a pretty nice upgrade. The sound is very clear, no muddiness/hiss whatsoever. I don't have them to compare side by side, unfortunately, but when I put it in the CD player I went "Wow" because it was so clear. I still have yet to pick up the other two remasters and the live album, but I'm guessing they're equally good.

Its been fine today.

And I did upgrade to Itunes 5.0.1.4 or whatever.

I honestly think it may have had something to do with the ripping/too many processes going, something of that nature.

But as long as its working OK now, I'm not going to dwell on it.....

Play on.
