That is awesome..and a ripe conversation for discussion on friday:

[HIJACK]

who 'round these parts owns a gun?

I don't personally, but am looking to get a shotgun for home protection in the near future.

Do people actually still use this excuse to get a gun? Jesus Christ...

Was that the time he poked his eye out or was that someone else entirely?

Better get a pistol too, to plant on the fucker after you shoot him dead or you'll find yourself in jail.

Nice call with the throwaway piece, Steve.

I hate guns, but probably because I hate people and can connect the dots to an obvious chain of events.

i don't own any guns, but that's only because I'd get all wasted one night and shoot up a tree stump or something in my yard. Fuck home protection, I'd just wanna shoot something. that isn't living.

Why would I need a gun for protection when I have one of these?

A good friend of mine really did find a drop piece, but he lives in Florida, where he don't need it.

And after the next legislative session in Bama, you won't need one either.

I was never a huge fan of guns, and don't really need a glock or anything. But trust me, look up things like MI-5s 48 hour rule, check out how close I live to New Orleans, go through a 5 day black out, where gas and food start to get scarce, and tell me you wouldn't feel better some 40-aught buck in your closet.

A frien

I was just commenting on the fact that the law doesn't view anything in your home as being more valuable than a human life. Unless you can prove your life is in jeopardy you'd be screwed if you took a shot at someone. You say changes are coming, though.

I don't own a gun, but I have handled them before. My wife and I don't have any plans on ever owning a gun, but I still like the option should we change our minds that if I'm away on business or something and my wife wakes up to find some fucker at the foot of her bed she could have a weapon to defend herself.

But, no, I don't see us ever owning a gun.

In Florida, as I understand the law, you only have to THINK your life is in jeopardy to start bucking and blasting. It is a more liberal interpretation of law than law enforcement gets, and I know the dude sponsoring the law here.

My dad's had a gun my whole life, and I never knew about, or found it. I think that it is not only possible, but easy to own a gun with no moral quandaries, and no chance of your kids shooting little Johnny from down the street.

BUT, I know the NE Liberals on this board will disagree, that is why they are better than us po suthun' folk, and we should listen to them

I dont/cant own a gun in Canada. They practise strict gun control, something Americans should adopt. Not that Id want to own a gun though, but I would like to own one for the purposes of shooting at stuff. Empty beer cans, trees, the philadelphia flyers.

they just changes the laws recently to this, but now it's extended to cover being in your car and, in some cases, on the street. It is the most retarded policy ever and they should have fun with that.

I don't know if that stands for North East or New England, but I'm all for it. Shotguns and rifles should be all over the place. I just don't see the need for pistols (other than for cops/bail bondsmen/etc...) because they're fucking useless. I absolutely DO NOT think we should have machine guns and sniper rifles available for purchase by the common man. If I'm not trusted enough to smoke pot, I certainly should be trusted with the fucking killmonger 5000 armor-piercing life-fucker. I think that shit is ridiculous. But yeah, i'm all for the real guns.

dont have one, but i may get one down the line. used to do a fair bit of target shooting when i was younger, so i know my way around one fairly well. the only reasons i would get one is to do a bit of hunting or target shooting. if i wanted to protect myself id buy a heavier door with better locks, not a gun.

Yeah, I'm reminded of a time when I was a kid living in the Bronx and I used my hand to get the elevator door to bounce back before it closed.

There was an old lady in the elevator that went into a complete panic literally pulling out money from her pocketbook and thrusting it at me. I tried to calm her down, but I wonder now what would have happened if she had had a gun in her pocketbook.

The thing of it is, much to my true embarrassment, at the time I was the kind of scumbag she should have feared....just not at that moment.

We pretty much stand in full agreement.

In general, old people shouldn't be allowed to have guns or car keys.

I don't have a gun. I don't ever plan to use a gun. I don't think the presence of guns are the problem, nor do I believe gun laws are an effective long-term answer. People will find other ways to kill each other if they want to badly enough, and I'd rather focus on where those wants come from.

I'd be willing to bet that teens cause more problems behind the wheel than old folks.

This is true, Colin, but I do think guns make it psychologically easier to kill. To bash someone over the head or stick a sharp object through flesh you've got to really MEAN IT
