Probably not too many of you.
I was though.
It was fun for a while, and actually helped me be less of a social retard.

I never date raped anyone and i never hazed any pledges.
I just drank beer, smoked pot, and came to the realization, after 3 years of trying to fit in, that I didn't fit in with most of these people.

I was a ZBT at University of Missouri -- a chapter that is now defunct.

Anyone else here brave enough to admit it, if they were?
Where did you "belong".

This oughtta be interesting.

I'm Greek. My life is a fraternity. And sometimes, a sorority.

I "rushed" Sigma Alpha Mu during the first semester of my freshman year at SUNY-Stony Brook, but decided not to pledge after realizing that most of my soon-to-be frat brothers were cretins.

So, the answer to your question is, "no."

I was asked to pledge TKE at La. Tech, but I opted out. My two very good friends did, however, and I got pretty much free reign without having to write any checks.

From time to time I would even drop in on closed parties/exchanges and hang, depending on what else was going on. Hell, quite a few people (and most pledges) actually though I was a member. Some cool fucking guys in that house, and we had some incredibly fun times.

Not Greek. Not a fraternity brother.

I did once ask two sorority pledges who seemed quite up on each other if they ever "dyke'd out", though.

Does that count?

I was in a fraternity in college. My dad was their faculty advisor, and he pretty much pressured me to do it, because I was still hanging out with too many of my high school friends. All in all, I had a blast, although I can totally understand the reason for the negative stereotypes most have of fraternities and even acknowlege the legitimacy of many of those stereotypes.

NU had a rule that you couldn't rush until winter quarter, which indubitably saved me from the Greek System. All fall quarter I was hanging out at frats, and then suddenly when they started hitting me up to rush in the winter I decided not to. I regretted it for a little while, as all my friends went greek, but it turned out to be the right decision for me after my freshman year

Contrary to what many seem to think (I know chase has dropped it on us) I don't think ANY of the ATL crew was in a frat. Never even considered it. Lots of folks from my HS went to UGA, and many of them being older than me (bloor) already had a network I could plug myself into. Having never lived anywhere longer than 3 years my entire life, I was quite happy not to have make friends all over again.

Edit: and I didn't want to buy my friends

Nope. All the Greeks at Georgia Tech were lame in my opinion. If I had gone to a bigger school, like UGA, who knows. I echo Loogar's sentiments-- didn't want to have to pay for friends.

But you'd also be buying into an old girls/old boys network... Could help with jobs/career.

It's not just buying "friends". Hell, you're not buying friends. You're buying into a resume padding.

I dislike all the frats on campus, and a majority of their parties are actually pretty lame.

I totally get that, but some of my old roommates and whatnot who were in sororities were not necessarily people I would choose to associate with anyway. I dunno about fraternities. It just used to really bug me with their standard uniform they wore back in the early 90s-- cutoff Duck Heads, suede bucks, polo shirt with white t-shirt underneath and baseball cap. So unoriginal.

edit: besides I still network with Georgia Tech alumni... you don't have to be in a fraternity or sorority to do that.

<=== did the fraternity deal with no regrets.

Pledged as a first semester freshman, and given our schedule, was probably the last first semester freshman to attend my school. Two years as Treasurer was some of the best real world experience I ever had. I made lasting friendships (I keep in touch with more fraternity brothers than with non-fraternity friends), had a blast, and pissed off everyone at the station because greeks weren't supposed to be on the radio.

Well, we had some Birch, some Klan, some Communist Party, some Frat, etc.

Nope, although, the greek community was very much in the minority at my school (which was already smallish at ca. 1800 students). I did play on the Kappa Sig ice hockey team and a few of my close friends in college belonged to either Kappa or Sigma Chi. I certainly dated lots of sorority girls. Hmm.

After spending some time at schools where the frat scene is the only option for having a social/party life, I can definitely say that I would've considered it at Dartmouth, MIT, etc. I mean, the positives can outweigh the negatives.

'Course, I would've deactivated after 2 years, probably...:)

<---- Kappa Sigma

Met some great people and served as a motivator to join other student organizations. Met my best friend, for whom I had the honor of being a best man at this wedding (he had two of them). Outside of my internship, it did more for real-world prep than anything else I did at college.

Hell no.
When I lived in dorms, my friends and I would collect all the rush flyers, scribble out the names and replace 'em with "GuyRammaDog" in marker and tape them on the outside of our doors. There was no use for them where I went.
Sophomore year, though, I did join the school paper which is analogous to a frat; rampant drinking and drugs, sexual shenanigans, all-consuming commitment, networking, real-world experience.
Only difference is instead of paying for it we got paid (a little).
And we didn't have to fuck dogs. That's a big one.
