Dalen, please expound on the awesomeness of this record (which you must still protect to the death because no one else can have it until January 24, 2006).

mindblowing shit. they remind me of Battles in some ways. way technical. you think the tune is headed in one direction, and then they just throw everything you thought out the door, and dive into some tripped out medley. ultra rad.

when's it due out?

It's out on January 24. In the meantime, they have a mix CD newly out called "The Enochian Way", which is also on blast. Completely psyched out blend of wonderfully selected tracks.

"The Welcome Table", however, is something to behold. Truth be told, I haven't given it a proper list on my own, but the 25-minute opening track is a monster (and actually kind of refutes the description you've written, based on its shameless minimalism). The rest of the record, I'm less familiar with, but I've gotten used to and now love the drum sound, and find that it's a very subtly melodic album. I'll give a better listen and come back.

yes, but minimalism can be very technical [as it is in this case]. people think of minimalism as boring, but man, there's a lot going on.

i love the drums. live sounding and loose.

will be buying this no doubt.

This is actually out in the UK in November, you luky duks.

I tried to give this a solid listen at work on headphones the other day, but only had time to get through the first monster track. You're right, Dalen. While minimal - even that track, which is 25 minutes of essentially the same riff - there is much modulation, however subtle, executed seamlessly and expertly, such that it never wanes in its interest. I'm very excited about this. Listened to their first album "Great Aviaries" today, and it's much more reposed, but I liked it alot.

Ninja's got a bunch of psych tinged ish coming out in the next months: an awesome and bizarre record that is very T. Rex in places by a dude name Pop Levi (I think), and a full-length by Loka, equal parts Bitches Brew and Cinematic Orchestra.

Despite the apparent influences, it never seems recycled.
