the new Madonna single has resurrected my love of Abba. The only album I have is Gold- anyone know anything more?

ABBA? ABBA, Swedish?
I knew them when they were a Lancashire clock dancing trio! ...

They don't suck? Some of the hookiest hooks ever?

That 2-disc collection contains pretty much anything you'll ever need to hear by them, unless you need to hear their albums.

the only thing a new Madonna single should ressurect a love for is strangling Madonna.

My wife loves ABBA. I pretend to.

Some songs like The Winner Takes It All are good.

I excuse myself from your grouping. If there's anything I'm schooled in more than is necessary, it's cheesy old pop hits.

I agree with this. There may be a few other good songs out there on their albums that aren't on the collection, but their best stuff is on the 2 disc set.

I've been a fan since I was 11. I only owned ABBA. The Gold is really all I need now to satiate a need for cheezed out, smooth, harmonic, blissful pop.

SOS
Name of the Game
Take a Chance
Chiquitita

It also reminds me of Europe when ABBA had their 2nd return to fame on the Gold release with remixing. Something about a huge Austrian man swinging a stein singing at the top of his lungs with the rest of the haus makes me giggle like little kid.

Leave it to white people to think that "good dance music" originated with white people.

My favorite from them is The Album, but Arrival is a great great record as well. These are their two best IMO.

Would go so far as to say that every sha-la-la-la, every wo-wo-wo still shines and that every shing-a-ling-a-ling that they're starting to sing's
so fine?

Bastard. Now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head. And I'm listening to Venetian Snares, so it's not like it's going to get ousted by that shit. Hopefully Lhasa will perform the proper exorcism.

Abba also originated hip hop, and shoegaze, and death metal... well, good hip hop and shoegaze and death metal, anyway. And Frida was the first white woman to shave her pubic patch into the shape of a valentine heart.

Yup. Abba. The originators.

You're Canadian. You should know, then, that Rush begat the first two you mentioned, and maybe contributed a little to the development of death metal as well.

My town has an Abba cover band. They'd be alright, except the drummer plays like Neil Peart throughout every song, and has a drumset just as big as Neil's.

"Waterloo, waterloo" boom boom thruttuka thruttuka doon doon blenketa thraaboom blenketa dubdubdubdubdubdubdub... "waterloo, waterloo."

It would be funny if it weren't so sad. And it's the drummer's band, so they can't kick him out.

I agree about S.O.S.--one of their best choruses. While shopping at the drug store once I came to the inescapable conclusion that 'Dancing Queen' is a genius single. I find their early bubblegum-simple stuff kind of annoying & prefer the sweeping, later period disco epics. At this point, I'm not really into listening to just the music. What I saw of Abba The Movie looked cool so theoretically I wouldn't mind seeing a video collection someday. I think there's two volumes.

Didn't the Clash play a festival once with ABBA's equipment? Johnny Green talked about it in A Riot of Our Own
