Not a single German I've every known has mentioned the good luck aspect of pickles. They've been holding out on me.

Ohh yes the pickle hunt. My ex in laws were very big followers of that tradition and still are. You hide it really deep in the tree and then after all the gifts are given out the children take turns looking for it and the first one to find it ends up with the extra gift. Which is usually rather lame.

Though I won it once and it was a giant coffee mug that says Chicago which I actually still have. Oddly it's survived a divorce and about 6 or 7 moves over the last 8 years.

I didn't know this game involved a Christmas tree. Oh wait, I'm thinking of hide the salami. My mistake.

I suppose Christmas Pickles make more practical ornaments than Christmas Chili or something.

Pool Pickle (#WS04)
The young, and young at heart, will love this 4-foot pool pickle. Made of polyethelene (hard plastic), this pickle is a fun floatie for those who like water sports. (Not to be used as a life-saving device.) Price: $43.25

No...it's pretty much the same game. Just think less Rock Hudson, more Nat Turner...

A common thing around Arizona during Christmas season is the presence of chili Christmas lights. It's so stupid. "Chili lights? OH I GET IT! It's Arizona, it's the SOUTHWEST, we're SONORAN! Chili pepers as lights! So novel!"
