I know this sounds dorky but I don't like to cold call people. Today I have to call all these hotels in the city and say "hi I'm blah blah blah and blah blah blah blah, blah blah" and I'm actually kind of anxious about it. Really.
My boss wants me to call each of them once a week and it's hard to explain to her that frankly they don't want me to call once a week asking them if their guests want services this weekend. One of them more or less told me last week that if they need anything they'll call but they don't need me calling often.
She doesn't get that.
I have some phone phobias at times. Ugh, now I REALLY want to go home today. This is making me hate thursdays now.
Charli-
Make a chart/spreadsheet of the hotel, with the concierge's name on it, etc.
Or even go so far as to make a seperate sheet for each one, so you can take notes etc...
Mark what you do with each call...as in "Left Message" "Talked to Concirege, he asked fro info" "Talked to concierge and he said he would send his clients to the Hepatitis infected Vietnamese spa is I call again"
Get a brochure/one page ad with some coupons or discounts to fax to them after you talk to them.
Then, make it a game. Come up with a phrase or something stupid you can call people without them realizing it...I call people "Gar" on the phone all the time, and they don't even realize I am talkingshit, its just a mechanisim to relax me.
Then realize that the worst these people can say is "No." call em, and show your boss what they said, and what you did about it.
And I basically just described what I do for a living.
