What is your favorite song of all time?

I think I would have to go with "Heroin" by The Velvet Underground."

This is such a patient song that ebbs and flows brilliantly. Every time Lou Reed gets to "Heroin / be the death of me" it gives me chills. Great song.

"What Else is New" by Dinosaur Jr. Love the guitar and lyrics and the fact that it goes from an up-beat rocker to a slow strumming acustic number by the end.

A close runner-up would be Procal Harem's "Whiter Shade of Pale." I simply love that song.

Only ONE song?
That changes day by day.

Today, I'm gonna have to go with:

"Ju Ju Man" by Jim Ford, performed by Brinsley Schwarz.

It just makes me feel good.
Real good.

Changes so often...Via Chicago used to be a good answer, but A Letter to an Occupant simply still delights, despite the lyrics being nonsense.

i've tracked my favorite songs every week since july 1984, and the #1 of all-time is "tonight, tonight" by the smashing pumpkins.

however, there are eligibility rules, so only a subset of new music since 1984 has been eligible, not even counting all music before 07/84. Taking all music into consideration, i'd have to say...

don't know

I usually go with "Rocks Off" by The Rolling Stones
but many days it would be The Beatles Golden Slumbers Suite
and about 100,000 rap songs depending on what day it is.

New York Dolls "Human Being"

- works as an anthem, an apology, a philosophical treatise, and a muffuggin' partay all rolled into one.

I have to mention Orange Juice again. I'd probably pick 'Tender Object' just because I love the sound of the guitars - especially James Kirk's rudimentary Rickenbacker solo.

Since it's lunch-time in the desert, the correct answer here is When I Was Young/ E. Burdon & The Animals

Changes all the time, but I'll always love Redemption Song~Bob Marley's voice is so pure and the imagery in the lyrics indelible. The arrangement is spare and spacious all at once. Despite the fact I may have heard it near a million times (so far) I love it.

nice.

I'd say either "Raisans" by Dinosaur Jr or "Roadrunner". Maybe.
