So last week I came across this cd while hunting through the bins:

Dune: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1984)

[img][499:500]http://www.duneinfo.com/cd/images/cd_cover.jpg[/img]

I vaguely remember this sci-fi movie as a teenager. Sting was in it before he caught the suck. Anyways, I flip it over to see who did the musical score and guess what I found...

Written, composed and performed by Toto.

WTF?! Toto??? The, "I bless the rains down in Africa", Toto??...No way.

Way.

I demand an explanation for this. No one in their right mind could have been thinking, "Gosh, I need a composer that can make music that will fit my big budget sci-fi film....hey, wait a minute. Let's see if Toto is available!"

Also, this...

Alf? ALF?!!!!

Why the hell would Alison Moyet name her album , "Alf" in 1985?? I'm at a loss here...

Ian MacKaye working with Al Jorgensen from Ministry was always a bit of a head-scratcher for me.

Explain to me Peter Gabriel producing Donny Osmond's comeback album. I know Donny's supposed to be a nice man and all, but, okay Petey, we call you St. Pete for reasons other than mercy production.

The Damned getting Pink Floyd's Nick Mason to produce their second album was pretty punk

Oh, yeah, a classic one would be ELO doing the Xanadu soundtrack.
That was a bad move for their critical standing, though my wife and many gay men would disagree.

I think Alison Moyet's nickname or alter-ego was Alf. Something like that anyway.

ALF also didn't come on until 1986.

Paul Stanley : Lessee...we've made millions by writing songs about girls & how much we love rock music. What can we do to further our gazillionaire status?

Gene Simmons : I KNOW...let's make an album that doesn't sound like anything else we've ever recorded, based on a mystical short story I wrote! The album can be the soundtrack to a non-existant movie and/or show!!!

According to Nick Mason's book, the Damned contacted the Floyd's management because they were trying to get Syd to produce.

Can't be any more bizarre than the "Animals Have More Fun" single he did with Sham 69's Jimmy Pursey.

Buckethead might be more technically proficient than Slash, but he still can't play the same way. FACT.

Plus, I wouldn't want to party with Buckethead. LAME.

Excellent call. Not only a band idea in concept, but then they didn't make the music ( what little I heard ) match said concept. The very definition of "ill-conceived" .

I have no use for Garth's music, but his story fascinates me. He's somewhat of a kook.

Garth is a self-creation who boxed himself into that creation. I bet he listens to White Zombie on his tour jet.
