I tried this with Sigur Ros but couldn't do it, even with the words in front of me. :D

Hoppípolla

Brosandi
Hendumst í hringi
Höldumst í hendur
Allur heimurinn óskýr
Nema þú stendur

Rennblautur
Allur rennvotur
Engin gúmmístígvél
Hlaupandi inn í okkur
Vill springa út úr skel

Vindurinn
Og útilykt af hárinu þínu
Eg lamdi eins fast og ég get
Með nefinu mínu

Hoppípolla
I engum stígvélum
Allur rennvotur (rennblautur)
I engum stígvélum

Og ég fæ blóðnasir
En ég stend alltaf upp
(Hopelandic)

Og ég fæ blóðnasir
Og ég stend alltaf upp
(Hopelandic)

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:

Jumpin' puddles

Smiling
Spinning 'round and 'round
Holding hands
The whole world a blur
But you are standing

Soaked
Completely drenched
No rubber boots
Running in us
Want to erupt from a shell

Wind in
Aand outdoor smell of your hair
I hit as fast as I could
With my nose

Jumpinpuddles
Completely drenched
Soaked
With no boots on

And I get nosebleed
But I always get up
(Hopelandic)

And I get nosebleed
But I always get up
(Hopelandic)

I usually only sing along to Spanish or French songs. It's bad enough that I try to sing along to English ones!

Hee hee. There's nothing more entertaining than sitting in on a night of Karaoke when there's Japanese tourists performing.

You know it occurs to me that after reading the actual lyrics to that song I might have turned a few potential buyers off.

Quality Hallmark lyrics there.

I find that its just more convenient and satisfying to make up my own lyrics to Sigur Ros.

I sing along to the Welsh Super Furry Animals songs. In the process I think I have picked up some of the language as well.

Oh, most definitely...especially (though not literally foreign) Cocteau Twins but also Stereolab, Serge Gainsbourg, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Gruff Rhys solo/SFA stuff, oh and lovely Faye Wong, heh.

Yeah it's a pain in the ass trying to sing along to anything on Kent's "Vapen & Ammunition."

Now I know why I'm having trouble w/ making my mix cd this morning...after I saw this, I can't get the damn song out of my head:

Dominique, nique, nique s'en allait tout simplement
Routier pauvre et chantant
En tous chemins, en tous lieux, il ne parle que du bon Dieu

Il ne parle que du bon Dieu
A l'e poque ou Jean-sans-Terre de' Angleterre etait Roi
Dominique, notre Pere, combattit les Albigeois

I've tried to sing along to Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66's Mais Que Nada, but it never has worked out great.

I sing along with the New Pornographers, which might as well be in a foreign language.

Yeah, it just takes me longer to learn them. Hey, we all know the random yelps and howls folks singing in languages we do know put it.

I am also a fan of people translating their songs and doing them over in a language they've learned phonetically (see: the Beatles, the Wedding Present). Always a kick.

Count me in for Stereolab, Cocteau Twins, Cafe Tacuba, My Bloody Valentine.

And yeah, Jonsi's lyrics blow in English.

I sing along with French lyrics all the time, since I took three years of the language. I try with German, Hopelandic and sometimes Spanish. I made a few attempts to sing along with Seu George on his Bowie covers for Life Aquatic, but that was nearly impossible.
