Add "Starry Eyes" to those two. It's probably my favourite pop song.

this is funny. this morning I decided to check out The Waxwings based on robotboy's mention and stumbled across this badass "RIYL" list of similar power-pop artists on Amazon (some good stuff here):

The Waking Hours ~ The Waking Hours
Baltimucho! ~ Love Nut
Ask Anybody [Import] ~ Swirl 360
Tsar ~ Tsar
Repeater ~ Splitsville
C-60 ~ This Perfect Day
Mission: You ~ The Rosenbergs
The Beat and the Time ~ Lackloves
The Drowners ~ Is There Something on Your Mind?
Repeater ~ Splitsville

Thanks, robotbooty!

I'm guessing "Valerie Loves Me" is what yer gettin' at. ( ? )

Other than that, I recommend 3 full albums :

TSAR's self-titled debut ( Radcliffe's recommendation "Silver Shifter" is on here )

The Knack : "Get The Knack"

& since Material Issue was already mentioned, their "Freak City Soundtrack" album.

Need a good dose of vintage power pop?
Two words: Off Broadway.

They came from the same era as Cheap Trick. Had the same producer as CT did. Also had the same manager. They have one great album from the late 70's- "On".

Here-

Also there is a one-stop place on the web that'll satisfy your every power pop need...

It's a friggin' crime that there's not some kind of Material Issue "best of" out there. I know a guy who worked on the Knack remasters, & he pitched the idea of an MI compilation to his label...they had absolutely NO interest.

A couple that seem odd, but are really quite excellent:

"There Goes My Heart" - Enuff Z'Nuff
"Days Of the Week" - Stone Temple Pilots

Both took me totally by surprise at how great they were, when I found out who sang them. Still... check it.
