Sparked by the Metacritic Top 30 Thread:

I was listening to this the other day and still really like it, but I just can't get into it quite as much as KTM. I think it has a lot to do with the last 4 songs, which while all good, seem a bit more slick and just lose me a bit. That said, the first 7 songs are amazing. I'm still not sure where this will land in my Top 20.

Other impressions of Gimme Fiction as the end of the year approaches?

I still love it - but I wish "Was It You" had been left off and one of their many great b-sides took its place.

Like it okay but not nearly as much as KTM.

It's still solid for me, but it's fallen off a bit in my opinion. Used to be #2 or so, but now its almost out of my top 10.

Probably top 3 of the year for me when all is said and done. "Was it You" is the only song I really don't like but the awesomeness of "Sister Jack" more than makes up for it.

I love it too and actually listen to it a lot in reverse order (inspired by some thread months ago);

Weird. I actually like "Was It You" quite a bit. I just dig the groove. I need to try the reverse order method.

People who like KTM better than Girls Can Tell:

same options as likin Sufjan:
A) The Dumb
B) The Ghey
C) Missing Chromosomes
D) Gas Leak

I never really gave this album the chance it deserves. I should burn it to disc, or buy it.

Should squeak into the Top 10. I take cover in the Series of Sneaks camp so I think I'm supposed to hate this material, but I've grown to love it. The rawer, older Spoon is what I listen to most, but the overall slick production and tight writing of GF elevates this record above much of 2005's schlock.

A good album with a couple of great songs but by my reckoning there were at least 28 better albums in 2005.

I still love it, not quite as much as I love KTM...I'd put it right ahead of Sneaks in my Spoon catalog at #2.

I've been on a big Sneaks kick lately...and on balance, it's absolutely my favorite Spoon record from start-to-finish.

What rparizzzz says about a solid EP, gotta agree.

Liking it more and more as the days go by. Was horribly dissappointed in it when I bought it the day it came out, and now it is actually growing on me. I feel sorta bad about telling all those people who asked me about it to leave it.

Will hang in my top 5. Probably top 3 in the canon of Spoon albums for me behind ASOS and GCT.

i'm not sure if it'll be in my top 20 or not. it's a great album, but i think i played it out too much in the beginning... i'm a bigger fan of girls can tell.

also, they were slightly disappointing in the show a couple of weeks ago- only because britt was off tune during some songs. it was still a good show, but i've seen them perform way better. but goddamnit, why won't they ever play songs from telephono?!?!

I was listening to this today as I was trying to get my Top 20 in order...it'll definitely be in my top 5...or, if we stick to last year's format, in my first cluster

i actually just put this on to see if i like it any better than i did in may when i hated it. it might crack might my top-20, but probably only because i only bought 19 albums this year.

whatever came of that rumor that it's meant to be played in reverse? (as in, last track first.) any truth to that?

Girls Can Tell, still my favorite to spin. Also, I Turn My Camera is becoming more novel with every spin.

I actually thought the B-sides on the bonus disc were rather weak. Strongest was definitely the 'Sister Jack' piano demo, but even that wasn't as good as the original. As for on the Sister Jack single, the remix was ok for a groove, but wasn't anything really interesting, and Sunday Morning/Wednesday Night was blah. So, I'm gonna disagree with you on the state of their b-sides on this album.

I think "Gimme Fiction" is an incredible and trend-setting affair that dares the listener to find something better.

2005's most crushing disappointment.
