I JUST RECEIVED THIS AT 6:28 pm CENTRAL TIME.

Hi there.

As a "thank you" for being subscribed to the Metro News e-mailing list, we'd
like to offer the first 50 people (and one guest each) that respond to this
message admission to see the legendary DINOSAUR JR. at Metro this Tuesday or
Wednesday... your choice! The shows are 18 & OVER and start at 8PM.

Send an email to metro@metrochicago.com with the subject line "Dinosaur Jr -
Tuesday" or "Dinosaur Jr - Wednesday" (depending on which show you would like
to attend). Please include your first and last name in the email.

You will receive a confirmation email if you are one of the winners of this
contest! Thanks again for subscribing to the Metro News list!

That's pretty sweet. Missed them at the 9:30 Club and have been kicking myself since, although more pissed about not seeing Barlow, than J Mascis. What time did THEY send it?

And I asked what time THEY sent it...this is stupid. It's irrelevent as to what time he received it...it could've been sitting in their outbox or in transmission for 2 hours. I asked because if they sent it awhile ago and he was just now receiving it, then the 50 1st people is probably taken.

Seems its too late for me to save face without looking like a bitch on this one...ah well.

Just a word of warning, D Jr. is one of those turn it up to 11 bands. I haven't seem them in a long time, but I doubt that's changed. My ears were ringing for 3-4 days afterward. I don't think I've ever seen anyone else even half as loud.

I just unsubscribed to the Metro mailing list a few days ago because I no longer go to shows (my tinnitus has recently gotten worse for some unknown reason, although I think that's TMJ related as I've been having jaw pain for a while). This concludes the "Aww Shucks!"/medical update post.

I always thought that was one of their claims to fame. I've heard that a-many times. Although 3-4 days...wow.

That's AC/DC or Motorhead volume right there.

Yeah it is is something they are known for. They were banned from many clubs for playing too loud when they first started. Still, I wasn't prepared for the onslaught of volume/feedback/distortion/etc.

Not saying don't go, but just know what you're getting yourself into. And I've never worn earplugs at shows before, but think I'd have to if I saw them again. I'm sure someone will now point out how the ticklebears are much louder but **insert shoulder shrug**

I never wear earplugs. I wish I had when I saw Mogwai at the Ottobar. By far the loudest of my outings.

Probably won't get a chance to see Dino Jr unless they tour again here soon. I should check.

For those who don't wear earplugs:

Do you think it sounds better without them? I've probably gone without them for about 7 or 8 seconds at a show or two, and found the volume to be close to unbearable. With them in, I'm actually able to tell what songs are being played and leave the venue without saying "what?" every other word.

Note: This is not a "people who don't wear earplugs are stupid!" post. I'm honestly wondering why you don't wear them when, to my ears, it's MUCH more enjoyable with them in.

I don't hear some frequencies as well with plugs in, but then again that may just be my imagination. The bass just doesn't seem to hit quite as hard. And to rabbit, obviously I should read posts more thoroughly before replying.

I only wear them if it is a pre-known case of a loud band. I would obviously wear them to a Lightning Bolt show, but wouldn't to see yr avg band. I found Sonic Youth was a push either way, but I enjoyed it more without the plugs. I agree with Almost in that the bass tends to just become a chest replumpler than an actual sound. I use cheapie $1 for 4 set brand, so I'm sure they aren't the most sonically enhanced :)

C'mon, idiot. They sent it at the time I told you I received it. Maybe at 6:27.
Shit.

I can't really say as I've never worn earplugs at a show before. Maybe they are fine, but I have a mental block against doing so. It seems like it would be the equivalent of partially blindfolding yourself before going to an art viewing.

D Jr is the only show I've been to where the volume has actually bothered me so I've never really considered wearing them.

whatever. I'm not stressing over it. Obviously you misunderstand where I'm coming from and vice versa. No worries.

they're not playing anything post-barlow, right? i like that stuff, but "start choppin'" is my favorite song of theirs and i'd probably leave way disappointed if i didn't hear it.

any show dinosaur jr or j mascis-related is sure to be the loudest show you hear this year. i have heard that from every single person who's seen them.
