pretty underwhelming, to say the least. it probably wouldn't have been so subpar if they wouldn't have taken multi-minute breaks to tune/fuck w/ drums/amps after every fucking song.

and i realize that they had to play mainly (in this case ALL) older songs since it was the 'classic' lineup, but it wouldn't have killed them to play at least one from Where You Been

i was bracing myself for it, but it wasn't bad at all. I saw them at the same place more than 10 years ago and thinking that made me feel old

this is precisely why i didn't go. my friend called at 9:30 and said she had a +1, but i was like, "there is no way i can walk out not disappointed without hearing "start choppin'" so have fun." five minutes later, she called me back and said she left because it was way too crowded and was probably a little worried about her ears. i hoped that we made the right decision. thanks for confirming.

Just say "Start Choppin'". You and I both know that's the song you mean. :D

I saw Built to Spill a few months ago and they did the same thing. Really made the show lose steam, esp. since there wasn't a big turnout (Sunday show; no alkie sales). So there was just a minute or two of silence between every song.

I'm obviously totally biased but I saw them twice over the summer and loved it both times. They do a lot of retuning and whatever but watching Mascis work the frets and effects makes it all worth it to me.

The shows are incredibly loud, at least the two I went to and the two J Mascis shows I've seen were.

Where You Been is my favorite album of all time but I wasn't disappointed that I didn't get to hear anything from it, it was just cool to see the original lineup for me. I heard they did play "The Wagon" in Ann Arbor last week, though.

Exactly why I ignored the email Metro sent to me saying you've won two tickets. I'm glad I didn't waste my time.
