Of course, if the Dawgs get down, I'm going straight to Plan B:

Nice! and unto you peace! that old rasputin is a decent drink, but i'm interested in hearing your feelings about that sierra nevade celebration.

i went nuts yesterday, as it appears my beer guy got all the dogfish head specials that i'd been looking for:
[img][143:500]http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/full_size/17557.jpg[/img][img][137:500]http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/full_size/23382.jpg[/img][img][149:500]http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/full_size/1189.jpg[/img]

and my traditional end-of-exams beer (this time for the last time), Double Bastard:
[img][189:500]http://www.arrogantbastard.com/db2003/images/bottle.jpg[/img]

15%, 7%, 8%, and that double bastard is a solid 10%.

First impression of 2005 Celebration Ale (in glass)......good, nice flavor....a little nutty.

It tastes just like something I've had on draft recently but I can't put my finger on it.

Yeah, I've never had the Rasputin; I really wanted the Gonzo for my dark beer selection but alas they were out....Dude at the store said this shit is like 8% though so at least its got that going for it.

i think that they're a bit strong for the night that i want to have; 2 or 3 of these and i ain't going NOPLACE. i also bought some 90 minute IPA, 9%, so i think that it's really a damned-if-you-do situation.

Celebration Ale was the first beer I fell in love with. It not only solidified my existence as a hophead but it opened the door to bigger and better micro-brews. The local beer bar here stocks up on Celebration kegs so he has it throughout the spring and early summer. I'm not sure i agree with this because I'm always excited for each year's release and to have it for nearly half the year depletes my hankering.

Drinking tonight:

Middle Ages Wizard's Winter & Beast Bitter

Home-brewed Imperial Stout

Yeah, good for me, the gf is sick so no chance she will want to hit the town after she gets off work. I'm pretty much free to sit around and guzzle beer with impunity; until the inevitable, "oh shit tommorrow is Sunday! We need backup!" around 10:30.

Just curious, what are the beer laws in all yall's backyards as far as Sunday beer purchasing and or drinking? Here, you can't buy from 2:00am -11:00am Sunday morning.

i've kind of assumed that it was the same here as in NC, where you can't buy beer before noon on sunday, but then again i've never tried to. or gotten up that early either. they stop selling retail at midnight (bars until two, but you can't get anything to go), which used to really cheese me off but i've gotten used to it.

In Georgia, you can't buy anything in stores on Sunday. Restaurants or bars that make 50% of their revenue from food can serve after 12:00pm on Sundays.

The day to day shit varies by county. For example, where I live you can go buy beer at 12:01AM Monday morning and 24 hours a day if its not Sunday; but, in Athens for instance you couldnt buy after 11:30pm any night and then not until 7 or 8 the next morning. Which sucks when ur in college.

Yeah, Utah takes a lot of shit about its liquor laws, but you guys in the southeast have it much tougher.

I'm enjoying a Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale.

Ruston, LA had some unique booze laws:

1. Beer and wine could be sold within city limits, but only under a certain percentage. Probably around 10-12%, but I don't remember exactly. It was funny because they could sell certain variations of a product, but not necessarily all of them, e.g. Strawberry Hill Boone's Farm (say, 10%) but not Country Kwencher Boone's Farm (say, 13%). No liquor within city limits.

2. Lincoln Parish [County for the other 49], where Ruston was situated, was a wet county. Sell what you want, unless prohibited by city ordinance. So Grambling, LA--six miles west of Ruston, with it's own University--was completely wet. Beer, wine, liquor, saltines by the sleeve, whatever. And they had a pretty comprehensive liquor store called The Keg Package, conveniently located right off the interstate.

3. In Ruston, there were no alcohol sales after Midnight, period. Grambling however, was open until 2 am. Surprise, surprise…two bars opened up just outside of Ruston city limits and petitioned Grambling to be annexed. Poof! Bars open until 2 am, literally about 100 yards outside of town.

4. Lincoln Parish forbade alcohol sales on Sundays. This meant you had to hoof about 30 miles to Athens in Claiborne Parish or a handful of beer retailers in West Monroe in Ouachita Parish. Athens was a trip, especially during NFL season. There would be a line 12-15 people deep in this no-name convenience store, and beer prices would magically leap 20% on Sundays.

5. Since I left, it is now legal to sell liquor in Ruston if you have a full menu kitchen up and running. It's an odd coincidence that the law got changed right around the time a Chili's got built off the service road on I-20.

I am 97% finished with the final project of my grad school "career," so I may pick up some brews this evening from the scary liquor store around the corner - hopefully Hacker-Pschorr.

I finished my project, but I didn't get any beer (or even leave my apartment). It's official - I will be done with grad school on Thursday.

I haven't had a drink yet tonight. I passed out while watching The Amityville Horror. I'm gonna take a shower and go to the bar though.

Third Coast Beer, brewed by Bells. It's not bad, but Bell's Amber kills this

screw you guys, they stop selling all alcohol at 9 PM here (unless you go to vic pierce's outside of city limits, and even then it's only beer until midnight). sucks.
