So I'm in FYE looking for childrens DVDs (for my kids, not me), and this nice salesperson hands me a coupon for $3 off. I never buy any CDs at the chain stores, but out of curiosity I check for Neutral Milk Hotel. Amazingly enough, they have one copy of In the Aeroplane...and with the coupon I actually don't laugh at the price.

I take the CD up to the counter, and the same girl rings me up. She looks at my old, haggard self, looks at my kids, and asks, "Neutral Milk Hotel, huh? Is this for you?" Like there's no way in hell it's for me. When I say, "yes, it sure is for me. I've been looking for it for awhile," she pumps her fist in the air and yells, "Woot! It's an excellent CD."

She was so happy & surprised to be ringing up something that wasn't crappy, that I'll forgive her for thinking the CD couldn't be for me.

I don't go to FYE anymore for two reasons: 1) the prices are usually redonkulous, and 2) I had a salesperson laugh at me once when I purchased the first Pernice Brothers album and the Ocean Colour Scene B-Sides album. He looked like your typical Hot Topic cretin.

I usually get the head shake and the "oh, this must be some white folks shit" at Best Buy.

Yelling "w00t!" in public, or anywhere for that matter, should never be forgiven.

The couple of times I've been there the prices have been outrageous. BUT...this FYE in NJ is having a sale -- 3 CDs priced at $14.99 or less for $25. Yeah, most of their CDs are more expensive than $14.99 (the NMH was), but I'm sure that if I go back & scout around I can come up with 3 that I want.

Yeah, really. The first time I heard it pronounced out loud, I asked, "what did you just say?" And the person, misunderstanding me, explained to me what it meant. Since the person was a friend, I played along. But seriously -- it's 733+, it's not meant to be pronounced out loud.

I usually make out like a bandit when they clear out stock and mark it down to $1.99. Bands that the normal person perusing will knock aside, I get all excited about.

It's an expletive, usually an exclamation of joy, luck, success, &c., I.E. of goodness.

I first heard the word from a girl who used to post on CMJ. Her real name was Katie, I can't remember her username.
