Nice list. one semi off topic question...

I see alot of people make all sort of lists and such, and for some reason, there is always a rule of: one song per artist, or one album per artist allowed.

Do you do this just to be able to give a wider and more diverse look at your favorites of the year?

I dunno.

I feel if I was making a list....And two, three or even four songs, I considered to be in my Top 100, I'd have to include them, otherwise the list wasnt truly honest to myself...

just a random thought from your uncle dov.

The Ryan Adams choice surprised me, I woulda figured something along the lines of "Let It Ride" or "The Hardest Part"

That's pretty much it. I play the songs back to back so I like to spread the love, as it were.

fair enough..

but looking back at your list... do you have other songs from artists that made the list that you would include in there, if you didnt impose that rule for this list?

Thinking of mine, all 8 Black Mountain songs from their CD would make mine. My top 100 list might have only different 30 artists on it.

for my top 100 i don't place this restriction -- seems artificial and definitely inaccurate. however, my rules for eligibility on my top # list are artificial too, but who can really keep track of one's favorite songs from a pool of ALL songs of ALL new albums on a weekly basis?

for my retrospective disc, i place this restriction -- 1 song per artist. i put 3 playlists together, top 21 songs of the year, top 21 albums airplay of the year (represented by 1 song per album) and a retrospective 16 (1 song per month, then 1 per quarter).

Definitely my favorite on that album. It'll be on my year-end mix which will be rather weak this year but still, this is a great song.

I do two sorta Best Of... comps for the year that I spread around to people I know who, while they like music, dont necessarily spend 22 hours a day online discussing it.

I try to limit it to one song by an artist but I'm making an exception for artists with multiple releases: In this case, Ryan Adams and Bright Eyes get a song on each album.

Edit: and oh yeah dan: I dig your list. I'm currently gigless so I won't be able to do the same until sometime in January.

I'm working on my Best of 2005 mix right now. Around 22 tracks. A lot of the same artists, different songs though.

Well, considering that list consists of 100 artists and mine is only 22, I expected many of the same artists, but it appears of those the same, I picked a different song every time.

I wish I had time to listen to 100 different bands in a year. I'm stretching to make a top 25 albums. I don't think I've ever made a list, other than maybe a top 10 of the year.

These are all wonderful choices for Top 100 songs of the year. I'll have to work on my own kinda list like that. Several of these would definately make it though.

2. Bloc Party – This Modern Love
9. Maximo Park – Going Missing
10. LCD Soundsystem – Give It Up
13. The Sun – Must Be You
20. New Pornographers – The Bleeding Heart Show
25. My Morning Jacket – Gideon
26. Brendan Benson – I Feel Like Myself Again
27. Youth Group – Shadowland
32. Sun Kil Moon – Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes
42. Josh Rouse – Winter In The Hamptons
45. Idlewild – I Understand It
46. Hot Hot Heat – Middle Of Nowhere
47. Spoon – I Turn My Camera On
48. Decemberists – 16 Military Wives
64. Crooked Fingers – Call To Love
66. New Order – Krafty
67. Andrew Bird – Fake Palindromes
68. Stephen Malkmus – Mama
73. Sleater-Kinney – Modern Girl
76. Nic Armstrong & The Thieves – Broken Mouth Blues
77. BRMC – Shuffle Your Feet
78. Magic Numbers – Love Me Like You
82. Ryan Adams – Beautiful Sorta
83. Paul Weller – From The Floorboards Up
85. Doves – Some Cities
86. Dandy Warhols – All The Money Or The Simple Life
90. Frank Black – I Burn Today
95. Ben Lee – Catch My Disease
99. Low Barlow – Holding Back The Year

This is a good choice too, but I still like Reunion better off that album
5. Stars – Ageless Beauty

I usually make a top 50 songs of the year list and it's usually only one song per artist. I should expand it to 100.

Oh no, wait! The Cloud Room's 'Hey Now Now'. There was no other song on the album as good as that, but dammit, that one's good.
