Holy Christ, did the '90's suck..

Ok, yes, a lot of the music the 90s had to offer was crap. But, it also brought us some of the greats....

Quicksand
Pavement
The Jesus Lizard (Goat, Lash, Liar, some awesome singles)
Blur
Sunny Day Real Estate
Liz Phair - Exile in Guyville

it's too early in the morning for me to really get a comprehensive list going... help me out here

I'm afraid I can't help you much. My areas of expertise are the 1980's and the current decade.

I was only an infant in the 70's so my memories from then are hazy while I was drunk during the 90's and my memories from then are, well, hazy too.

Pulp were rather good, were they not?

Most music released in most decades suck, especially when you're focusing on one-hit wonders.

I think generally that from the nadir of the mid to late 80's we've slowly been improving. Therefore the 90's were a gentle upwards curve. Or something. I know shit about graphs.

Being in my 20's didn't suck.
Being at college and having lots of sex didn't suck.
Going to shows every week didnt suck.
Spending all my "spare" (npo such thing, really) money on records and CDs didn't suck

Some of those bands whose records/CDs I spent money on:
Blur
Pulp
Stereolab
Super Furry Animals
Guided By Voices
Neutral Milk Hotel
Shrimp Boat
Uncle Tupelo
The Jayhawks
Beastie Boys
James
Oasis (singles)
Dogbowl
Pegboy
Falstaff
Flavor Channel
Pavement
Cornershop
Apples In Stereo
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Flaming Lips
Sloan

Wasn't the 90s the year punk broke?

The last time I saw Pegboy, I left the Vic and headed straight to the Lounge Ax to see the debut show from Jeff Tweedy's new band - Wilco.

Yeah, I'm old.

So, it's been a while but they are amazing.

True.
Larry showed up at my pre-HoP band's last show. (We shared the bill with his roommate's band.) And he was genuinely flattered that I loved his band so much. Easy to talk to. But yes, a very big, tough-looking guy.

He certainly looks like a meat-eater. But we just had a beer and a very short chat.

I get the feeling that you're not saying something...

I could make a huge list of bands/albums, but is that necessary?

This is like people (say, me when I was a teenager) in the '90s saying that the '80s sucked. Or people in the '80s saying that the '70s sucked.

Most of what happened in the '90s just isn't very cool right now. Just wait 5-10 years before people start complaining about how much this decade sucked and start heaping praise on the '90s.
