Frank Black "Honeycomb" is better than I thought. Its still not memorable, but its not bad. I'm surprised not to see it on more top 20 lists. I still think it is an album made more for his own enjoyment than our own, but hey its not an embarrassment even if its the worst version of a Dark End of the Street that I've ever heard. Most from his generation [wisely perhaps] wouldn't even attempt that song.

Another album I'm surprised disappeared quickly from everyone's memory is Al Green "Everything's OK". Its not one of his best but I think its better than "I just Can't stop" even if narrowly so. I think there are a lot bigger Al Green fans than I here so I'm surprised this album isn't on any top 20 lists either. My own take on him is he's got such a magical voice that he could sing from the yellow pages and sound better than most artist's original songs. Unfortunately, I think on his best albums only 40-50% of the songs are more interesting than my imagined Al Green singing of Letter Q. On his average albums including "Everything's OK" its closer to 20-25%.

Maximilian Hecker "Lady Sleep"

I hyped this one pretty hard early in the year to little effect. I still think its borderline top 5 and would probably be top 2 if not for that weak ass attempt at a midrange rocker at the end. I wonder how many have even heard this though cause I still think it would appeal to many

np: Max de Castro "Max de Castro" - a definite top 10

goodnight all

There is more than you hyping Maximilian Hecker on the board, isn't Dalen a fan? Anyway there are a few of them anyway.

I'm sort of interested but a lack of cash makes it impossible for me to pick up everything I'd like. If I ever see it at a lower price I'll probably get it.

Max would've made my year end list, if it included 30 albums.

I dig Al Green, but for some reason I haven't dipped into his output from the past couple years.

I wish I'd bought A Band Of Bees in 2004 so I could have put it on last year's list.

I don't have the Richard Thompson yet, but from the several songs I've heard it'd probably make my list.

It'll be a high placer on my list.

Oh, and I guess I should point out that only Maximilian Hecker from above will make my list. I was just listening to those three last night in my effort to start working on my list.

I'm actually having trouble finding 10 albums from 2005 that I liked. This list is gonna be tough (and weak).

I'm a huge fan of the 70's stuff with Willie Mitchell and was initally psyched that Al was returning to a similar vibe. But they don't do it for me in an you-can't-go-home-again kind of way.

On the contrary, I've been listening to my top 30-something, trying to narrow down my list, and I'm kinda surprised by just how much I like several of them. There are at least 10 records that I think are really great that I'm gonna have to leave out of my Top 20, and it's going to be really difficult making that cut.

Of the stuff I've been through so far, I feel like I've really underappreciated the Sufjan Stevens, Caribou, Jamie Lidell, and High on Fire records lately. They need to move up on my list.
