Looks like someone has flooded a usenet group with all of Superchunk's albums. I can't actually recall a lot of talk around here about this group, but if there are any fans, what should I grab?

I really like No Pocky for Kitty, but I also think it's the only one I've heard in it's entirety. That sounds odd, but I had this feeling I would only be disappointed after that. Similar, but not exactly how I feel about Tigermilk.

I really like the song "Animated Airplanes Over Germany", especially the opening line, "I'm getting through that sleep it off phase".

Getting all of these right now. It's one of those bands where I've read a lot about but haven't heard a note. Thanks for the input.

Get the singles comps.

Tossing Seeds and the one with the kid in the KISS t-shirt on the skateboard. Incidental Music? work from there.

i disagree, i like many songs off of these but rarely listen to them all the way through.
i think they are for uber fans only. (which i consider myself just shy of)

Thank you, Mr. Jack. I haven't listened to Superchunk in a long time.

I don't really even consider myself that much a fan (the whole breakup period bores the shit out of me, too much of Mac moping, emoting), but the first 2 albums and the singles comps are the only albums I still throw on now and again. The third one Cup of Sand isn't as good as the others, but I still think it's worth checking out.

wait, i was confusing "tossing seeds" with the 2nd one

"tossing seeds" has "brand new love" and is listenable all the way through.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before but once I had a college interview and I was enjoying Superchunk on my walkman to such a degree that I didn't switch it off during the interview prefering instead to listen to 'Cast Iron' and 'Cool' (nevermind 'Slack Motherfucker' or 'Breadman') than the questions they were asking me.

Nod head, smile, yes, no.

Has it happens I didn't get accepted but boo sucks to you Langside College, a mere 13 years later I'm at Glasgow University which is much better....ha ha ha ha....I have the last laugh yet again! I will never be defeat by authority!

Anyway I don't listen to them much now because I had the cassette versions and they are virtually worn out to the point that it's just a sort of low buzz thats left on the tape but I guess thats as good a recommendation as you can get. Get 'Tossing Seeds', 'No Pocky For Kitty' and 'On The Mouth'.

I'll be the first to give some love to "Here's to Shutting Up," which I feel is woefully underrated.

There is something to be said about Superchunk...I think they've been putting out great albums since No Pocky For Kitty.

Indoor Living gets no love???

Here's to shutting up was one of my favorite albums of a few years ago.

I was the same way. Always heard a bunch about them, but never heard anything by them. Finally found a used copy of their self-titled and bought and dug it.

On a related note, wasn't there an old indie rock joke about going to shows and yelling out requests for "slack motherfucker" no matter who the band was?

It looks like they all came through, save for the second singles compilation which had missing parts. If anyone is interested in hearing any, drop me a pm.

i imagine i would like "indoor living" more if i didn't have all their other albums plus a bunch of portastatic albums. By the time i heard it i was a little bit past my threshold.

but it's a solid album.

i still don't have "here's to shutting up"

My favorite superchunk moment:

I was in the Merge office one day and I was introduced to Laura (co-owner, bass player) and we started talking about the get up kids and how she hadn't heard them yet despite the fact that they were due to tour together soon...I loved being able to tell her that they were basically a 3rd rate version of her band.

In one single file, I've got Here's to Shutting Up and Tossing Seeds for anyone who'd like to hear it.
