Even though New York City has a sizable minority population (many of whom, I am sure, enjoy live music), the sad fact remains that very few Latinos (such as myself) like to go to indie-rock shows. I guess that most of my brethren like to party north of 125th Street.

So, in order to make a Liars show even more entertaining (is that even possible?), my little brother and I like to play a little game called, "Find the Minority," in which a player can accumulate points based on the racial make-up of the show's attendees, as follows:

Blacks = 5 points
Latinos = 4 points
Asians = 3 points
Whites = 1 point
Whites (with dreadlocks) = -5 points

We've gotten lots of points (of the multi-racial kind) at DJ Shadow and !!! shows, but next to none at Black Dice gigs.

"Find the Minority" is a game that still needs to be perfected, so feel free to play it during your next concert.

I play a similar game. I alternate between "Spot people over the age of 35." and "Spot the full-blown hipsters."

Hipster watch is more fun, but adult watch is harder.

hipster bingo is still one of my favorite identification games to play at shows, but "find the minority" is gaining steam. we've never used a points system, though. it's usually more like, "oh, look over there." i'm latino, but i pass for white, so it's kinda tricky.

Here I was, thinking this would be a drinking game based on sightings of those glasses. I guess that would have been too easy.

Damn. None of your games would be any fun in Los Angeles.

Wow, the group of people I usually see shows with would rack up a ton of points. One of my brother's friends is hispanic and the girl he likes is Asian. While I don't see a lot of black people or hispanic at Omaha shows, there are a decent number of asians.
It is enjoyable to play spot the old person, especially if it is a real square looking person who obviously rarely goes to shows or is some kids parent at a Bright Eyes show.

Dot or feather?

Dunno about Minority watch, but Hipster Bingo, Spot the old player, and the Yail Bloor family look a like contest would have been great ones at the Old 97s show me and jagged and FT went to.

Don't be offensive. The CORRECT test is Curry or Corn.

Some of those dudes have probably done more things in their lives then any ten or more of the young unsquare-looking persons. Some of the most awesome people I've known are ordinary looking on the outside. Like my stepfather-in-law. Bland-looking, a preacher, but also a ward of the state who pretty much raised himself, a decorated Vietnam Vet who saved many lives, though he saw many friends killed. One of the smartest and most intriguing people I know, but thinks all bands should sound like The Beach Boys and looks like Kevin Tighe.

One can always throw on a stupid scarf, wear ugly glasses and have dumbass hair and call oneself interesting. Real interesting has nothing to do with that.

The guys in the sig below are probably a hoot, for instance.

Course years ago I probably looked pretty silly to the mid 80's rednecks all gussied up in my Eurotrash new wave black suits with the long permed hair and earrings. With The Dead Boys "Caught With The Meat In Your Mouth" blasting out of my dorm room or something. Like an Aaron Neville fullback version of Howard Jones. Or Boomer Esiason at a Dave Gahan-themed costume party. Most everyone looks goofy at some point in their lives.

Except LooGAR, of course. Man's inhuman.

yeah, imagine that: a knife wielding, ex jock with a huge head, cowboy shirt and greasy pompadour at an Old 97's show......

My old friend Robert used to tell me that he hated being one of the only two black people at Panic shows because "the other brother is inevitably some dude with dreads and a dashiki and it just makes me look bad" :lol:

seriously! that job sucks.

my favorite will always be "count the dudes in eyeliner" with the addendum of "the dudes who are really self-conscious about the fact that they're wearing eyeliner".

I play spot the drunk ass guy who is going to fall, then I move away.
I also play spot the hot drunk chick that is most likely to take her top off, and move towards.

I think they are saying that counting up all the white folks would be a sucky job since there would be too many to count. Whereas there might be just a handful of asians, for instance.

I didn't mean to knock old or square looking people with my earlier post. I usually look pretty square and I have sat/stood next to the parents of the Baechle Brothers of The Faint at a few shows. I was just stating it is easy to count them in a game while waiting for a show to begin.
As for the short guys, I am only 5' 11", but I have been known to tower over people at shows and block people's view. At my first Rilo Kiley show, I think I was the tallest person in my vacinity by close to six inches. It really freaked me out. It was almost like being Richard Dreyfuss at the end of Close Encounters.

No offense taken, honestly. I'm just acknowledging a fact.
