When I was around 6ish, I talked my grandmother into buying me the Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill and Twisted Sister - Come out and Play. I bought my first cd in the fourth grade, and it was Another Bad Creation - At the Playground.

i have no idea for any of these. people always think that i should know because my database has "date purchased" listed, but that's really only the last 4-5 years. i suppose none of my firsts made a great impression on me.

Back in the early days of Aural Fixation's youth, CDs and cassettes were not available. So, it was all about 8 tracks and vinyl. That said:

First 8 track: Donny Osmond -- S/T
First vinyl: Donny Osmond -- S/T
First import vinyl: Bay City Rollers -- S/T

Yeah, I was a Donny Osmond fan...so what?

Going into too much detail....

Vinyl: I'm not entirely sure about this. When I was a kid there wasn't much money going around and I didn't get any pocket money so I couldn't buy any records. I'd just listen to my dads records, put in requests at birthdays and Christmas or got stuff out the library. As a teenager I bought a lot of metal albums and I definately bought 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son' on vinyl, so that's my best guess.

Cassette Tape: I used to buy a lot of cassette tapes because I didn't have a CD player for a long time. Also, due to going to a 'mental' schoo full of lunatics, I used to skip it alot and head into the city and if I bought a cassette I could listen to it on my Walkman rather wait until I got home if I bought a vinyl LP. Again I'm not sure what album it would have been but it could have been 'Bosonova' by the Pixies.

CD: My memory is terrible. Again I don't remember exactly which it was but I can narrow it down to two purchases. I bought The Smiths 'Strangeways Here We Come' and their self-titled debut in one purchase and on a seperate occassion I bought 'Give Me Conveniance or Give Me Death' by The Dead Kennedys. I probably owned about 20 CD's over a couple of years before I even had a CD player.
