Well that sucks, that would have been a pretty awesome place to see them perform. I hope they make their way to Alpine otherwise, cause I'd prefer that over other area venues.

Heh. I read that a week ago on CMJ of all places. I guess PFM isn't as up on their news as they'd like to be.

I realize Chicago can get away with doing something like this more than say Omaha, but I think any city government entity who turns down two concerts like that due a Orchestra rehearsal needs to be replaced.
They should have tried to get the Orchestra to play with the band.

Yeah but the Orchestra has carte blanche with the Park system every summer.

Maybe Radiohead should just pick different friggin dates.

I sort of assumed that someone working within the city parks department had given them the ok, since it would not have normally went to another board for license approval unless they determined the date was open. Again I do not live in Chicago, so I don't necessarily know how often the Cultural Affairs Department and Parks & Recreation Department interact or if they are part of the same governmental agency.
I agree that Radiohead should be looking for other dates, but I also think the Orchestra could have probably waited a day for an event of this size. It just seems like some one dropped the ball somewhere in the city government.

this was in the tribune and/or sun-times like two weeks ago.

i get that the date was already booked for rehearsals, but it's radiohead. and after lollapalooza last year, the parks district said they wanted to explore the option of more (rock) concerts in the park. and i believe that radiohead charging obscene amounts would rake in a ton of money for the city, especially since the orchestra rehearsal won't bring in anything. at the same time, though, the orchestra is a staple and will be around much longer than radiohead. and, as i understand it, they were only denied for one of two possible dates. (i can't access pfm from work, for some reason, so i don't remember details.)
