The guy's a dick. It's a shame he didn't get charged. I'd probably do the same thing she did if I saw someone blatantly littering like that. I love living in a clean city, and believe it or not, litter has becoming enough of a problem that it has been fairly big news here, so I'm glad to see someone do something about it, even if the situation escalated into stupidity.

i loathe littering. my pockets and purse are full of garbage because i just can't throw anything on the ground. but, as a bicyclist, i don't f*ck with drivers anymore. last march someone in a car was playing chicken with me by swerving into me. instead of letting the jerkoff pass, i kept riding and getting more and more pissed off. that ended with me riding into a curb, flipping over my handlebars, fracturing my four top front teeth and getting a concussion. not all drivers are dicks, but the ones that are, really are.

Yeah, you're probably right. I've been really lucky w/out too many altercations. Lately, though, people have been turning directly in front of me. They accelerate to get by me, then turn in front of me! Idiots. I'm going to start spitting on their cars, now.

are you kidding me?

she picked up his litter, opened his car door and threw it back at him? what is she? the litter gestapo? the guy's obviously a major prick but she sounds like a self righteous asshole.

of course, she didn't deserve what happened next but how dare she pick up trash and throw it in his car. puh-lease. did she think the guy would "learn his lesson?"

"I hate littering and NEVER do> In fact I am constantly picking up litter and make my son pick up litter at the park."

do you have a critical mass in your area? (i have no idea where obner people are from)

i've done my share of spitting at cars. being a not-ugly girl on a bike has caused a few closecalls with scumbags that like to drive very slowly next to me and yell obscenities. that's always fun. i want to pull them aside and ask them if the yelling from their car approach has worked in picking up women.

But really what does this solve? What do you gain, other than a greater chance of retaliation? It's just stupid.

Perhaps you can explain in all your mouthbreathing wisdom why the courier's act of retaliation was more effective and/or socially responsible than just picking up the trash and disposing of it in the nearest bin.

It makes me feel better that they have to clean a little snot off their cars after almost maiming/killing me.

No reason, I guess. If you haven't been there, you have no room to comment.

Bullshit. Two wrongs don't make a right.

It's pretty traumatic, actually.

Does the argument hold if some idiot on a bike cuts from behind some cars and darts in front of me and I hit him and kill him due to his own irresponsibility? Tack on years of grief and legal battles, too.

Do I get to go spit on his house to make it all better, or am I just an asshole like you?

At the same time, if you spit on someone's windshield, then they pull out a tire tool and put in some work on your limbs with it, is the little bit of snot really worth it?

By this "logic", you should immediately withdraw every ounce of criticism you have levied against President George Bush, since you haven't been there.

It's people like you that keep me Pro-Choice.

This is exactly what I was thinking. You don't know who your spitting on. For a few seconds of self-satisfaction you might get seriously fucked up.

Oh, and while I empathize with Finch and red regarding the plight of the bullied cyclist, I have to take the side of ayah and E. Fu regarding the futility of employing a loogie as a weapon against injustice.

Oh, and call me a wuss if you must, but I NEVER honk or even gesture at other motorists, no matter how much road rage might be coarsing through my sausage-clogged veins at the time. I operate under the assumption that all other drivers have a fully-loaded Glock in their glovebox, which they will fire into my skull should I so much as look crossways at them for cutting me off in traffic.

Bloor's triumph over carjackers was awesome, but it was also a matter of survival. No need to escalate over being "wronged" in traffic. Just do what I do...go home and take it out on your kids.

Lol. I'd listen to you before I listened to a guy calling me an asshole.

It's a snotty loogie, though. Doesn't that count?

I call them pavement omelettes. (Snotty loogies, that is...not besieged cyclists.)

see my earlier post. i don't mess with cars anymore. i learned my lesson the hard way. if you want the right of way so badly, i'm not going to get hurt by getting in your way.

car vs. bike (sometimes) is like high school bully picking on a little kid. most drivers are not out to get bicyclists, but those that think that bikes should be on sidewalks (that's actually more dangerous) or just not out in public at all are usually the ones that think nothing of door-tricking a bicyclist or throwing something at them.

so, what does spitting solve? nothing. but, when you're being tailed, pushed off the road, honked at or yelled at, it does make you feel a little better. didn't say it was the "right" thing to do.
