Beatles fans are generally broken up into two groups: The John people and the Paul people. (No offense to George, this is just for the sake of simplification.)

But that dichotomy is also in evidence in other bands with multiple songwriters/leaders, methinks. For instance...

Hüsker Dü: Bob or Grant? (toss up for me and a total mood thing)
Uncle Tupelo: Jay or Jeff? (in the context of this band, gotta go with Jay)

What are some other ones?
How do you lean?
Do you have an opinion in the ones I've already mentioned?

John Paul Jones is sort of Led Zeppelin's George Harrison.

As far as the Uncle Tupelo thing, I gravitate to different ones on different albums. Jay in the earlier work and Jeff as he matured as a songwriter and performer. On No Depression, Jay is clearly the talent. However on Anodyne, I think Jeff is Anakin to his Obi-wan. EDIT: Haq beat me to this sentiment.

I like John and Paul equally. To me they absolutely needed each other.

you sir, are smoking crack

Frank Black's solo output not only dwarfs Kimmie No-Talent, it beats the Pixies.

If you tell someone you're a musician, they immediately want to know what you play and what your music sounds like, and that question is pretty much impossible for me to answer honestly. I usually tell them I play in a Led Zeppelin cover band and that I'm John Paul Jones, so I really don't have to do a lot onstage.

Isn't the marble mouthed rapper the "GREEN eyed bandit?"

Gimme Keef over Mick
John over Paul
Levon over Robbie
Cube over Eazy
Tip over Phife
I like Adrock from the Beasties
I like Brett Midland from The Grateful Dead (Put the razor down, Bloor)
Morrison over MANZAREK (poetry, man)

I could go on all day, though I don't really care for these types of arguments. Most bands are the sum of their parts.

Newman or Case or Bejar?
(I only own the new one and haven't heard much of the back catalogue yet...)

The only argument on this one for me is Newman or Case.

I think I have to go with Newman, but only by like a 53 - 47% margin.

I was wondering....

I saw dude in the ATL airport like 10 or 12 years ago. I was like "Whut up, E?"
and he nodded at me, and slurred a "Sup, G?" and we just kept walking. Pretty weird encounter.

Lou Barlow vs Eric Gaffney

Gaffney made horrible songs, but he made Lou interesting.
