A completely unsolicited out-of-the-blue call based on my resume being posted on monster.com, without ever having even applied for the position. Kind of a fluke, but makes me believe their commercials.

I responded to an old internet advertisement on the University of Nebraska job site for graduating students. They weren't actually hiring at the time, but they still offered me a job after I interviewed with them.

I lucked out... I found a job listing in the newspaper for an "architectural/engineering consultant firm," and since I went to a architectural/engineering school, I figured I'd be a shoe-in. Turns out I was. I have since dropped all remnants of the job I interviewed for, and now work on project management/web development. I'm going on almost 10 years here now, and quite honestly, I'm feeling like I need a change soon.

"But I went to Harvard!"

"Then it should be a really good blow job"

I got an internship at a PR company through a friend of a friend's sister.

Then did a contract thing for a healthcare company

Through which I met someone who works for my company.

I walked into the interview, he looked at my resume, saw that I went to UGA, he was a 96 grad, so we talked about bars and music. They called me that monday and said "Go to Montgomery"

Sarcastic answer: blackmail

Short answer: I interned here the summer before I graduated and applied while doing my semi-hysterical scorched earth pre-graduation job search.

Long answer: Interned here summer '99 and made a good impression. Applied when there was a job opening that worked out timing-wise w/ me graduating. They told me that position was too advanced for me (which, looking back, was true) and I was resigned to working one more summer @ the college paper and looking some more for a decent job - to that point the only firm offer I'd had was from a 17,000-circulation paper in Roswell, NM. A week into the summer, the same place that turned me down called me back because a different job I was qualified for opened up. I was the only candidate and got the job that June. 2.5 years later I got promoted to a better beat and last month I got promoted again, both times out of the blue.

For some reason I decided I wanted to move back to my hometown after graduation. Heard about a potential position by chance and I dropped off a resume and talked for at length to my boss. Then I went through an interview process and I got the job. Now I'm in the market for a new one.

A friend of a friend who works here. He introduced me to him, got invited to a Christmas party, met one of the HR recruiters - she liked me, so as soon as I sent over my resume, she called me for an interview and found a position that would suit me. Then I got the job.

It's pretty much my dream job and so much room for growth, so I'm stoked.

Before this new gig, I got my old job through a temp agency from Monster.com and got hired permanently. Was there for almost 4 years. SO glad I got out of there- I was so unhappy.

I got hired by a client I was doing freelance work for because they were sick and tired of the in-house idiot.

It's a good gig. I took about a 50% cut in my hourly pay, but I get 100 hours of work every month guaranteed at the lower rate. Plus I get pretty much all the freedom I can stand, and an office where I can blast music all day long.

A classmate of mine said,

"Say, Danny, are you looking for a part-time job? My boss is looking for some good writers."

It just so happened that I had quit my job at an immigration law firm just three days before my classmate asked me that question.

"Uh, yes I am, actually."

So, since November, I've been working with a private company that promotes literacy in New York City public schools.
