Way to tie Latvia, you losers. The US will be lucky to reach the medal round. Regardless, olympic hockey rules.

The US team's biggest mistake was not selecting Ryan Miller, who hands-down has been the best American-born goalie this year (and one of the best in the NHL overall, at that).

Still, they should have beaten Latvia handily. Does Latvia have even a single NHL player?

Irbe has been out of the NHL for the past few years.

The problem with both the American Hockey and Basketball team in the Olympics is that most members of the team seem to treat this like a vacation and/or some charity event that makes them look good. Most of them don't seem to have the national pride of the other countries. The Canadians at least play for defending the honor of it being considered one their national sports and everyone else plays hard to beat the USA and Canada, and make their country look good on the global stage.

In SLC, the Americans got beat and thrashed their rooms at the village. Seems more like a rock star attitude than an Olympic athlete.

Some of the players that won the 1996 WC are STILL ON THE TEAM! Where's the youth? Can the future and present be this bleak?

The goaltending on the current team is a joke.

This was a great game... all the way to the end. These are two very talented teams.

US does have some player coming up (Kessel, Johnson etc.)..And I totally agree with Nacho(Even if he is a Sabres fan:))...Miller should be the starter...Hands down the best US born goalie this year...But the US team this year is weak all over..Some very OLD vets who are surving on past accomplishments, and some younger guys who just aren't that good(Jason Blake, Mark Parrish). They just happen to be american...Canada should win gold hands down...They could put together 3 teams of Canadien players not in the tourney that could all Medal...

And I'd still take him over John Grahame.

You don't know what you're talking about. Nagano was the room scandal & other than that they've placed very well in very tough tourneys. SLC they silvered to an awesome Canadian team. In the '96 World Cup they won it all beating Canada 3 out 4 times they played & the 1 Canada victory was one of the worst missed offsides call in the history of hockey.

Irbe is still good even if he doesn't play in the NHL. Don't let that fool you.
