I must admit I wasn't very impressed with this when it came out, putting me in the minority on CMJ at the time. I never bought another GBV album after it. But listening to it again today, it's not as bad as I remember. I still can't stand "Glad Girls" though.

Maybe I'm becoming Chicago-ified. FT knows what I mean.

That's good to know. So I don't need to get any of the last three then.

I do like Mag Earwhig! and even Do The Collapse though. Wonder why Isolation Drills didn't grab me originally.

Mag Earwhig hasn't aged well as an album, in my opinion. Unless you were weaned on Mag Earwhig, it's really hard to identify with a band in transition that sounds really nothing like GbV has ever sounded or would sound like again (except for maybe Jane of the Waking Universe)

Do the Collapse was ruined by Ocasek in my opinion. The original demo of Teenage FBI was far edgier and cooler than the Ocasek version. Also, the Hold on Hope EP bests the DtC album head to head, you should check that out too.

Many people say their last two records are good, but I just can't get into them. I did like their 2002 effort Universal Truths and Cycles quite a bit. There's probably 7 or 8 really great songs on that album.

'The Brides Have Hit Glass" is a great track. One of Pollard's best ever I think. As for the older material 'Mag Earwig is still my fav post UTBUTS reckid...for a lot of reasons really.....but it's nowhere near as good as the 94-95 period.

I'm diggin his solo record quite a bit too.

This is the GBV record I listen to the most nowadays.

In fact, it's the last one by them I really liked.

It may be unbelieveable but I don't think I've ever heard a song by GBV.

Would someone be willing to YSI me a track or two?

this is actually a Rober Pollard solo song, but who can tell what's RP solo and what is GBV. also it's the only song i have on my computer . . . but it's incredibly awesome and super adictive

robert pollard - Zoom (It Happens All Over The World)

For me, it's definitely a Top 5 GBV release:

1. Mag Earwhig!
2. Earthquake Glue
3. Under the Bushes Under the Stars
4. Isolation Drills
5. Universal Truths and Cycles

yeah, as I think has been discussed before, this is an extremely weird top 5. None of those records are even in my top 5.
