I'm listening to Theodore: An Alternative Music Sampler (released in 1989), the song
"She Says (Come Around)" by the Rave-Ups
just ended.

This is a band that always makes me think of our very own
onebrownjeff
as he was the one that loaned me their album Chase back in 1991 at Mizzou, along with the one and only great Goo Goo Dolls album (Hold Me Up) -- both of which I put on the same 90-minute TDK tape.

Any bands that make you think of specific people?
Not necessarily obnarians...

Every time I listen to Joseph Arthur, I think of Charli because she's the only person here who plugs his music more than I do. 8)

vh reminds me of my vh friend fanatic. to him, EVERYTHING they do or the individual band members touch is gold. from extreme van halen to montrose, it's great no matter what. i hope i never approach this level of fanaticism.

morrissey and the smiths remind me of this asshole i recently dated. i used to love morrissey and now i can never listen to him again.

i hate when douchebags ruin music for me. usually it never gets to me but this time around it did. UGH.

on a happier note, modest mouse & wire reminds me of my best friend... so many drunken nights blasting those 2 bands. good times.

I can see that.
Of course, whenever I think of the Stones, I think of Yail/Loogar. At least nowadays I do, with their heavy-hitting love for the band being proclaimed on an almost daily basis... ;)

Listening to Fugazi will always remind me of my husband (we met at a Fugazi show). Actually, a lot of punk bands make me think of my husband (Bad Brains, Bad Religion, Trusty, Mr. T. Experience, Samiam, etc.) only because he hosted a punk/hardcore show on the college radio station, and I always hung out with him in the studio.

"Slide Away" by Oasis. Reminds me of this boy I had a crush on in college. He only went to the school for 1.5 years, but my crush lasted 6 years...pathetic!

Whenever I hear AC/DC I think of my co-worker Craig, who happens to look a little like Artie Lange and is quite fond of the phrase "YOU'VE BEEN...THUNDERSTRUCK!"

THE track 'Pregnant For The Last Time' by Morrissey transports me back to the early 90's.

Smiths and Morrissey mania was still recent enough that nightclubs could throw 'Smiths/Morrissey Nights' and pull a crowd of bequiffed Fridaynighters.

You can imagine the scene; gladioli, hearing aids and NHS glasses were thronged onto the dance floor as 'What Difference Does It Make' twanged in monotone from the speakers, with my friend and I amongst them, and if truth be told in much the same get up.

At around midnight the Smiths Night would end and the 'Ordinary Boys (and girls)' would be ushered in and being Smiths fans unable to socialise with, and frankly scared of, the sort of people who had not and never intended to see an Alain Delon film, we would scatter in a panic and go home.

Now a couple of skinny male teenagers, with 1950's DA hairstyles and dressed in chiffon blouses presented what you might accurately call a 'target' to the shipbuilders, steel workers and scrap yard merchants, the real men of Glasgow, as they emptied out of the pubs. Many a bottle and can was dodged as we gingerly made our way back to the bus station.

However one night, we befriended two self styled 'Psycho-Billies'. We were very impressed by them. The hardest of the two had a quiff as tall as an Orcas dorsal fin and you had to imagine carried a flick knife. Their names I can't remember but they would 'chapperone' us back to the bus station no doubt eager for the inevitable trouble that would ensue. I vividly remember one member of the public questioning our sexuality was hit with a dustbin and given a solid kicking.

Anyway, 'Pregnant For The Last Time' reminds me of those two nameless Pyscho-Billies. Whatever happened to them I wonder?

Oh... Morrissey... *sigh*...he's the man.

I drove down to Boston with some friends years ago to see him play. He was all quips and silliness: when he sang "Break Up the Family" he sang it "I'm pregnant for the last time..." (instead of "I'm in love for the first time).

My bro recently announced to me that he's a Smiths convert. :)

There are waaaaay too many songs that remind me a specific people to list here.

On a Smiths note "There is a Light That Never Goes Out" reminds me of a birthday party I had quite awhile ago (I still lived at home!). I have this image of a huge group of my friends---specifically my friend Murray (the black Morrissey)---singing that song in the kitchen. Nice memory.

Pink Floyd, Queen and Genesis always make me think of my brother Matt, who owned everything by them before he died.

Probably because I have his CD collection. Oh, and the fact that he
was as troubled as Syd.

(Ren & Stimpy makes me think of him, too because the first time I saw the cartoon was in his apartment just after he got back from the Gulf War)

No, seriously, I would just hang out. I had my own little stool and everything. I would help him pull records from the stacks to queue up. I used to dj at the station as well. Never had my own themed show, but I dj'd probably 3x a week, and covered for him once when he was sick. Now what we did in the Blazer on the way home, well... that's another story. ;)

Clearly, I think of timmyjoe now whenever I think of Collective Soul. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, because prior to joining this community, I never gave CS a second thought at all! ;)

When I have the misfortune to hear Animal Collective, I think of the valiant effort Haq gave at making sure I'd heard at least 3 or 4 tracks. He really did try.

So tell us about this Blazer.

And I still don't buy the "i'm a good girl at the radio station" routine. The stool didn't happen to look a lot like his lap, or did it?
