Houston trades their pick to Indy, Indy drafts Bush, Edge goes to...Seattle?

It could happen.

they've done something like this before sending marshall faulk packing for edge, so i can see them drafting a RB in the 1st, but to go skyrocketing to the 1.1 from where they are would take more than just the edge... might be too expensive for them.

maybe if lendale or 1 of the other couple of RBs are still available around 1.15+, then maybe they can do this. i'd think the potential suitor would come from the top 8 so it's not too expensive pick-wise. 49ers? titans? pack? not sure there's a great match. (the pack aren't known for big moves like that.)

y, he looks like the best, but the top 3 or 4 TEs should be good with pope & mercedes plus liekponf (or however that's spelled).

I dunno--Lewis, Alexander, and Edge are all going to hit the free agent market. Indy might be willing to let Edge walk if they've got a deal cooking with Houston. Seattle might be in the same boat, but I suspect relations between Alexander and the franchise are much better than Edge/Indy. Edge pretty much said he's leaving.

Houston just re-signed Carr, and they've got Davis in the backfield. They could comfortably trade down on this one.

Baltimore might also be a player here.

RB values, as set by last year's market, are set at a #2 pick. however, no one wanted to pay that in 2005, & there are a few good RBs in this draft, so who knows...

IND could trade edge for a 2nd then use that 2nd plus their 1st to move up half a round.

hou's best bet is the OT ferguson. no need to be in the top 3 for him. they probably wouldn't mind AJ hawk either.

i agree BAL could be a player. they HAVE made big draft day moves in the past with the current administration (boller, anyone?) that'd make for them to take bush.

i think in the case of healthy RBs (edge & s.alex) vs unhealthy RBs (jamal & ahman), the healthy ones will probably find (like last year) that the turf is just as green at home as anywhere else. the unhealthy ones might not have a choice to stay.

The Jets could be a dark horse here as well...

They've got the 4th pick, Martin is getting old. They may have cap issues trying to sign a first pick, though. Then again, they may want to grab a QB, given how shallow and fragile they are under center. Either way, that's a team who might very well trade up.

Speaking of freak athletes, please see Mario Williams from NC State:
6'7", 295, 4.75 speed for a DE

I'm thinking Cutler winds up a Jet. Curtis has at least another year or two in his tank and Pennington looks to be finished as a Jet - look for him to join Herm - they had a tight relationship.

and cutler wont make it past the saints. jets could land leinart or young though

This still doesn't solve Indy's backfield. They need a credible running threat to keep the heat off Manning--I don't think Rhodes is that threat. The only free agents out there appear to be Lewis (whom I wouldn't touch with Loogar's ten foot pole) and Alexander, who I think will re-sign with Seattle. Dallas Clark with some other consideration could be attractive to Houston.

If the Bears do not draft a TE in a strong TE draft class, I will be highly disappointed.

dudes stock is rising big time. he is easily the best QB prospect at the combine, but can someone risk not taking leinart at that spot? cutler is way more physically gifted, and IMHO a better prospect
(i.e. has had to suffer more at the college level)

All the brouhaha and fawning over Cutler strikes me as a little suspect. Last time someone came out of nowhere at the combine and had their stock skyrocket was w/ Akili Smith in '99. Dude was an above-average QB in college, but around draft time - in one of the best QB drafts in ages - he had people believing he was better than Culpepper, McNabb, Couch (OK, bad example) and the rest of that class.

Not to say Cutler is anything like Smith physically or mentally or that he won't succeed or even excel. But I think people get caught up in trying to scope out that diamond in the rough that no one else knows about. A couple people's speculative comments become a crescendo and then a zeitgeist.

Three years and $30 million later the draft day beer goggles are gone, the hangover sets in an everyone wonders what the hell they were thinking.

There won't be a draft. The only possible way there would be is if we started another war, but that won't happen because we will never attack a fundamentalist country. Fundamentalist countries like Saudi Arabia and to a lesser extent UAE, which unlike Iraq are where the 9-11 terrorists came from, are off limits. Hell, we'd probably award them control of our sea ports before we would deal with the fact that they are the source of the terrorists, not Iraq. I predict next time they attack us, we will give Saudi Arabia control of our airports.

I can't tell if this is unintentional comedy gold or one of the best-executed pieces of satire I've ever read.

Either way, color me impressed.

Some interesting combine news from the following article:
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=404619

Quote:
[Mario]Williams, who just turned 21 in January, put up numbers that National Football League scouts will remember for years.

Perhaps his most eye-popping feat was the 40-inch vertical jump. Julius Peppers, the defensive end compared most often to Williams, posted a 36½-inch vertical in 2002.

Williams also bench-pressed 225 pounds a total of 35 times.

...

In his two 40-yard dashes on the FieldTurf surface, the consensus of scouts was that Williams ran 4.71 and 4.72 seconds. Peppers, 6 feet 6 inches and 282 pounds, ran 4.75.

Williams, 6-7 and 295, also had 7.6% body fat. Peppers had 6%

Quote:
Manny Lawson (6-5, 241), the right end at North Carolina State opposite Williams, also wowed scouts Monday with a 4.41 timing.

Lawson's also got a 40+ inch vertical leap.

Quote:
On Monday morning, Maryland's Vernon Davis (6-3, 254) might have moved into the top 10 picks with one of the greatest workouts ever by a tight end at the combine. His 40 time of 4.38 was far faster than the runner-up, Western Michigan's Tony Scheffler (4.54), and one of the fastest ever by a legitimate tight end.
