I think 4 years guaranteed is just too much risk for the Sox. I'm sure Sox fans will be hurt but in the long run the fiscal responsibility will help the club. Pedro is on the decline. If they can get Clement i think their rotation will be in a lot better shape. The kids got good stuff and he'll be cheaper the Pedro.

i guess my bone to pick here is that i don't see a cohesive strategy for signing players other than "we won't spend a lot for x years." there's not a single player on the Sox right now who has been given a lengthy deal by Theo and the Trio. at which point does signing established, but older players at a premium for your rotation jeapordize your ability to hold onto younger talent for a longer contract?

signing david wells and *maybe* getting renteria, but losing out on pavano, pedro, hudson (most likely), wright, et al. - is this all just to clear room for tek's contract?
