I just listened to this album for the first time ever last week.

Fire away.

One of the best albums ever made, both from a songwriting and production perspective, IMO.

Can't listen to it anymore. Totally burned out on U2, especially Mr. Vox.

It seems somewhat curious that this album has apparently escaped you for so long.

You never heard Pride (In The Name Of Love) before this?

Of course, i've heard all their singles. This is just the first full album I have ever listened to by them.

This album does not appear to have Pride (In The Name Of Love) on it, anyway....

Oops, that's from The Unforgettable Fire anyways. Don't know what I was thinking.

I like it I just didn't get as fanatical about it as some of my friends did in High School.
I came around to really liking The Cure and Morrissey, but I was more of an R.E.M fan then a U2 fan when this album was still huge.

aweosme. this really needs to be brought up again. Perhaps it would shut him up for a minute or two.

this is one of the best complete works by a band, without having any of their best songs on it

I'll tell you what I told my friend who loaned it to me:

I can totally understand the legend and accolades surrounding this album. That being said, it is not grabbing me as it probably would have back in 1987 or whatever. The truth is, probably unfortunately for me, I have been exposed to a handful of bands since this album came out who were obviously directly influenced by this album. Shitty as it may be, my perception of these songs is tainted by bands who imitated them.

But it's obviously a strong album, and Bono sounds much more sincere or something than he does today.

Achtung Baby is my favorite, but Joshua Tree is definitely up there too. The first three songs are classic U2.

not knowing the smiths doesn't surprise me at all. not having heard this album is more of a shock. it's one of the best A-sides of the last 25 years and totally great throughout.

Do you remember a Montreal band called RISE?

I listened to this over Christmas. Still a masterpiece.

Half a great album, half an album I can't even remember. As with most things that get this much hype, it's nowhere near as good as people want to make it out to be. But the half that is great . . . is really great.
