Why are celebrities the only ones who are believers in scientology?

I liked Matt Stone's response.

I love how Matt Stone, or Trey immediately called him out on it, and made Issac look hypocritical.

it's a loss, but he can be replaced.

They do have "celebrity centers," but I don't really understand what those are for.

Hayes, who has played the ladies' man/school cook in the animated Comedy Central satire since 1997, said in a statement Monday that he feels a line has been crossed.

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.

"Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored," he continued. "As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."

"South Park" co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply in an interview with The Associated Press Monday, saying, "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology... He has no problem - and he's cashed plenty of checks - with our show making fun of Christians."

Last November, "South Park" targeted the Church of Scientology and its celebrity followers, including actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, in a top-rated episode called "Trapped in the Closet." In the episode, Stan, one of the show's four mischievous fourth graders, is hailed as a reluctant savior by Scientology leaders, while a cartoon Cruise locks himself in a closet and won't come out.

Stone told The AP he and co-creator Trey Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin."

another Matt Stone quote

"This has nothing to do with intolerance and bigotry and everything to do with the fact that Isaac Hayes is a Scientologist and that we recently featured Scientology in an episode of 'South Park,' " Matt Stone, co-creator of 'South Park,' said in a statement. "In 10 years and over 150 episodes of 'South Park,' Isaac never had a problem with the show making fun of Christians, Muslims, Mormons and Jews. He got a sudden case of religious sensitivity when it was his religion featured on the show. To bring the civil-rights struggle into this is just a non sequitur. Of course, we will release Isaac from his contract and we wish him well."

O&A had some audio of Hayes on their show basically saying that he thought South Parks skewering of religion's was funny because they hit everybody.

Guess he disagrees now that it's Scientology.

I hear Beck will no longer be appearing on the show either.

What a bunch of fucking losers these freaks are.

yeah, they've gotten really spotty over the past few seasons. still, "woodland critter christmas" was one of the funniest things they've ever done.

I live a mile or so from the L. Ron Hubbard Insitute. I have no answers for why anyone would pay any attention to scientology or what the appeal is to celebs.

That doesn't change that South Park has always been pretty stupid and that Isaac Hayes is one of the more talented mofos in the music biz.

I thought Beck had distanced himself from Scientology a bit before his last album. I remember Joey Waronker and someone else in his band quitting because they didn't like how he was trying to convert everyone around him to scientology. When he released Guerro, he seemed to have everyone back with him. I thought alot of his freakish scientologist ways had to do with his bad breakup with his girlfriend.
I could be wrong, but I haven't heard him linked with scientology as much as I had.
