nah, nevermind. it's pretty clear. i don't see why everyone is so crazy in hate with duke. it's not like they win every year or anything.

We hate them because every year they get their dicks sucked by ESPN, lose two out of three to end the reg. season, still get a number 1 seed, and get beat out of the tourney by anyone with a 6'5" guard to body up their shooter. I havent seen a case of the Emperors New Clothes that's as big as Duke's since Blueberry Boat.

well-said, except for the blueberry boat part. there has to be a much better example than that.

in total agreement save the fiery furnaces reference. that shit is pretty ill.
but yeah, duke is so ridiculous. it's the notre dame of basketball for the reasons stated above. it's kind of like rooting against the yankees...it just feels so right.

ok, but i don't understand who you would give the #1 seed to this year instead. they won the acc tourney and played a tough schedule all year. i don't love them or anything, but they at least graduate a ton of their players and don't run a dirty program. and they don't schedule easy games for themselves to inflate their record. it's fun to have a villian, but for me, it's memphis this year because calipari left umass in shambles.

I hope Big Baby ate Reddick in the locker room last night and cast his bones aside for Sheldon Williams to pick up with his Men In Black alien-lookin' self.

there is a part of me that secretly likes Duke.

that being said, once I heard the story that Coach K NEVER shakes the hands of the assistant coaches of the opposing team (only the head coach) after a game, I quite honestly lost a lot of respect.

But really: people hate Duke for the same reason that they hate the Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers, and Fighting Irish. Success breeds contempt especially when the successful team has a cocky attitude.

Nope, it's cuz I'm a Skins and O's fan that went to a different college. Couldn't care less about pro hoops.

And they're also preppy and clean cut.

I sort of felt sorry for Duke last night, except that Reddick's attitude was pretty pathetic. Yes, you're losing and you're playing one of the worst games of your career, but you don't have to lose your temper and complain so much to the refs about non-calls.

I don't hate them the same way I loathe Notre Dame for having a tv contract and a clause in the BCS rules that gives them a major bowl if they are in the top 10 or 12.
I just get tired of Dickie V thinking they should pretty much give Duke the title at the beginning of the season, year in and year out.
I also get tired of the fact that it seems like they play in the state of North Carolina for 90% of the season including the Big Dance. It's even worse now that they have regional hub sites that play games for two regions.

Not defending ND here, but both of those things are in place because ND is an independent NCAA Football program. Any other team is welcome to go independent but then they would lose their conference tie-ins and money vs. what they may or may not make as an independent.

Navy and Army are Independents and don't get the same treatment as Notre Dame, so that argument doesn't really fly. The Irish were still a relative power in the early 90's when they created the Bowl Coalition, so that is how they earned that spot. The TV deal came as a part of NBC not wanting to lose the rights to broadcast and College games after ABC and CBS got the sweet deals. It's all about their tradition now, since they obviously don't attend bowl trips in large numbers anymore nor do they travel to road games like at Nebraska a few years back. The powers that be no they can't really screw the Irish, since the CFB Hall of Fame is in South Bend, but in reality they don't deserve an at large BCS bid for finishing in the top 12 anymore than the 2nd best from the BCS Conferences who get ranked in the top ten.

All you ND haters can suck it. Prepare for Irish gridiron domination in 2006!!! (Except for the Fiesta Bowl...let's just pretend that never happened, mmk?)

Duke's OK, but Trick of the Tail is my favorite, with Selling England By The Pound.
