After watching this flick, i found myself caring about these bands alot less.

So to answer your question, I don't know.

And Courtney Taylor Taylor too.

Great fucking movie though.

I'm consistently finding my replies on Obner to be "I've been meaning to watch that" or "I've wanted to check that out"...

What the hell have I been doing with my time anyway?

I think their personalities, blatantly overacted no less, are what makes them completely interesting, and appealing to me. Let's face it, who wants to watch a doc about a band or group of bands who are all huggy kissy. BJM works because of Anton's snideness, and his inability to communicate properly to people. There's been a million garage bands like his, its his personality which makes them work. Like they said in the doc, people go to their shows hoping for Anton to act out. It isn't exactly an accident.

The only thing that surprised me in that movie was how everybody apparently accepts that Anton is a "genius" simply because he says he is (and despite all evidence to the contrary).

DON'T BADMOUTH ANTON!

Seriously, he'll find you man...or one of his "followers" will.

this guy i used to date told me a story of how he ran into anton at some hipster party in la... and how he almost got into a fight with him. i couldn't believe he even *thought* of fighting with anton because frankly, anton would've pounded that guy in a heartbeat.

damn, i wish he would've- that'd be funny. :rawk:

i'm prety sure a monkey in a wheelchair could beat Anton up. I mean, sure, he's fucked up enough he probably wouldn't feel too much pain, but I also don't think he'd be able to stand on his own power for long enough to really take a swing.

I saw this and loved it. I still wanna buy it on DVD.

After I saw it the first time, I revisited both bands, but it soon faded. I like some of the material of both bands, but the movie made was all i really need for the most part.

Me too. I can't see why everybody loved this so much. It was okay I guess.

Lesson learned from film: If you're marginally talented, sabotaging your career is your best move.

if you liked this, you should watch the metallica doc 'some kind of monster'. whether you love or hate the band, seeing them in touchy-feely therapy, while trying to get into their metal zone groove things is fucking priceless.

"Some Kind of Monster" could have been good, if it had been filmed 10 years ago. At this point in their careers, I couldn't give a shit what Metallica does to stay true to each other. Lars Ullrich needs to die already anyway. I can't stand that little toad.

It's not that i really gave a shit about them ten years ago or now; it's the ridiculolus journey of has-been rockstars that is entertaining and hilarious, the latter because the film is meant to be serious. Although I'll agree that lars has worn out his welcome. Surely you must have laughed a little when you saw this?

while we were in nyc last, our singer/guitarist was walking around for something to eat and spotting Anton. after a short "hey, you're...." Anton made him do hopscotch on a hopscotch board chalk-drawn on the sidewalk. he thought that was a bit odd.

Yes, I did laugh many, many times. The mere idea of a rock band like Metallica hiring a therapist fills me with mirth. But it wasn't even trainwreck-rubbernecker-worthy. In fact, I think I napped through most of it. Man, that therapist was on the gravy train, that's fo sho. I still stand by my Lars=Toad remark. :)

I started to watch this over my friend's house the other day and then realized 5 minutes into it that I don't give a shit about either of these bands and turned it off.

I'm not a devoted fan of either band but I like some stuff from each. And the documentary itself was compelling enough. If anything, bands should watch it to get a fundamental idea of what NOT to do.

Zia was kind of cute back in the day.

Just got around to watching it, too.

It was a decent enough time-killer, I guess...but afterward I was left wondering why I should give a shit about either of these bands - BJM in particular.

The Dandys have a few catchy tunes, but overall the flick was waaaaaaay too hipster-laden for my liking.
