Seriously.

Maybe once or twice a year I'll go on a fast for at least 48 hours or so, as long as I can hold out. I do it not so much to "clean my body of toxins" but more as a cure for moodyness and a temporary depressive state (due to all this rainy weather lately). The result from this is a feeling of lightness in your head and body but also a sense of calmness and peace. Really, I'm not making this up.

Has anyone else tried it?

No, when those feelings overcome me, I go out and waste money at a prodigious rate on Opeb Gluttony. Steaks, Liquor, etc...how that's different from the rest of my life I'm not sure. ;)

I once did a watemelon fast. Seriously. It's a good way to fast without feeling totally deprived. It's good for you.

A couple of years back I stopped eating sugar for 3 days. No fruit or fruit juice, no carbs (they turn into sugar), no honey, etc....

It lowed my tolerance and craving for sugar = gave me more "real" energy. It felt good.

I should do one agian soon. Too much caffeine & sugar in my system.

some of my hippie friends do this fast every now and then where for 10 days they only "eat" certain items and drink water and it's supposed to get rid your body of toxins. i'll find out more info on it.

i get way too cranky if i don't eat, so i don't even bother. i have no willpower when it comes to food, especially since my metabolism is so high i'm always hungry.

I did when I was younger but haven't in a while and mostly just to see if I could. You find that fasting really helps you when you're in a moody state? Hmmm... maybe I should start doing it again.

I am hypoglycemic. I eat crave need sugar all the time usually in the form of chocolate. Maybe I should try this to recalibrate my sugar levels.

I drive past a Carrabba's and an Outback Steakhouse every day.

So no, I don't think I'd be able to last more than 3 hours without eating something.

Exactly why I did it.

Heh heh... as an aside... I kind of cheated. It sounds brutal but although I didn't have any sugar, I actually nibbled a little piece of bittersweet baker's chocolate now & then---i.e. no sugar content, but 100% cocao---it helped.

Yeah, me too. An hour or two past the 4-hour "no-food" mark I become completely insane.

[quote="south pacific"] but more as a cure for moodyness [quote]

this would cause me to be moody, not cure it.

What's amazing is if you get past the first 24 hours your body goes from, "WTF?" to "OK, so I guess we're not not eating, huh?" After that point you don't even feel hungry.

If I start to hallucinate though I'll be sure to let everyone know...

I can only abstain from eating when I'm really sick or depressed. I lost 20 lbs in a month after a boyfriend dumped me. Not healthy but hey I looked great, even while crying! ;)

Now that I'm biking a lot more regularly, there's no way I could go without food. I eat all the time.

After I was diagnosed with diabetes, and before I went to a nutritionist, i was so scared of food, that i went on a lettuce and water diet for two weeks. i actually got very sick that way as well...blood sugar change was too radical and too quick...

my mom just ended a 2 week fast where she just drank fresh juice and water, she seems to think it worked out well for her. her skin looks pretty vibrant. hope that doesn't sound weird.

I seriously gagged a little thinking about that.

and with Carrabba's every time I end up there I thnk I can try something new and like it but the only thing i've ever been able to eat there are the mussels.

I tried it once and lasted about 2 days before I had to eat something. I was trying to make it a week.

Yeah. This whole fasting thing would never work for me. Anyone who's ever spent time with me can tell when I'm hungry; I become a cranky bastard.

only did because you added that last sentence, making it sound as if you thought more about your mom's vibrancy than you should have. creepy.
