Having seen both bands live, SWR does not measure up

Told my daughter I'd get her their album next time I get paid.

Speaking as a guy who was Mark's age at the apex of this type of sound, SWR get it pretty true, though the point of this much retro-fit I'm not sure I get. The sound is so '81-'87 they must be doing more than just being influenced. They're studiously ignoring the 90's.

Interpol's sound is influenced by a very small amount of stuff from the eighties, for sure, but i've never heard anything of theirs' that rips anything off. One of the major influences i can see is perhaps early Joy Division stuff from the late seventies and a little bit of Television with a dash of Mogwai. THis band however, is just another eighties rip off band with no knack for songwriting and another fuckwit who stole his voice from Paul Banks. The lyrics are so interpol wannabe its not even funny.

She Wants Revenge is a joke.

i think the similarity between SUmner's and Banks' lyrics is only that they're hit and miss: sometimes they sound clunky and not very poetic, but when they're good they're pretty fucking good.

But that formula is pretty good (i still maintain that Curtis and Banks only sound alike because of their baratone-ness). I think sometimes they is a hint of Television only in the guitars, but not often.

Also, anyone who doesn't like TOTBL doesn't like music.

There are so many moments on that record that I love, but the first that one always comes to mind whenever that record is mentioned is

"The subway, she is a porno"

Either that, or they dismissed it instantly because of anything they may have heard about it and never gave it a chance (unnecessary comparisons, etc.).

But basically, yeah, really.
